I confess that I don't really remember what the day was like, didn't really pay too much attention to whether or not there was any blue sky or sunshine today. I do know that there were some clouds though, and it was snowing when I let Reba into the house this evening.

Wordzzle Challenge

This is my 5th
Raven, at Views From Raven's Nest, has created this word puzzle, Wordzzle, for us to have a challenge and write to. The words to work with this week are:

Main Challenge:
Netflix, mortgage, skunk, flagrant, the New York Times, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, perpendicular, geometry, crabby, shoveling snow

Mini Challenge: pragmatic, crystal ball, laundry, safflower oil, Gregorian chants

My Mega Challenge (15):

Crystal Ball entered Netflix Mortgage & Loan at 3pm sharp. She had an appointment to see the crabby old skunk that was the manager of the company. Crystal was doing free lance journalism work for the New York Times & the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. A very pragmatic woman, Ms. Ball intended to interview Mr. Snodgrass, the loans manager here. Yes indeed, and she intended to air his laundry, with flagrant disregard for his feelings or livelyhood, in the two afore mentioned publications. By 3:30 she walked out again, with the intended interview safely in her briefcase.

Crystal had majored in math in college, planning to be a geometry teacher, then when that didn't work out she had turned to journalism instead. She was determined to make a go of this career, no matter what it took. Passing a man who was busy shoveling snow, Crystal continued on for 2 blocks before making a perpendicular turn and heading south on Western Drive. She went into the small grocery store on the corrner of Western Drive and Saloon Street, picking up a bottle of safflower oil, reconsidering, then returning it to the shelf. She picked up a bottle of Extra Vergin Olive Oil and a few other ingredients she needed for her dinner tonight. After paying for her purchases, Crystal left the store and got into the car she'd left parked out front, driving east on Saloon Street, heading home to do her Gregorian chants, then prepare her dinner.

My Main Wordzzle Challenge (10):

Granny Tubman sat watching her movie, a western that she'd just gotten in yesterdays mail, straight from Netflix. She loved watching western movies with all the good looking cowboys in their nice tight jeans, and all the horses. She so loved horses... and cowboys. Scattered on the floor around her lay the packaging from the DVD she was so engrossed in, along with the New York Times from earlier in the week, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy & an old geometry book. She had been in a crabby mood this past week and had flagrantly disregarded the latest notification that her mortgage was past due. She knew she should be out shoveling snow, but the movie was more important to her just now. Granny Tubman's pet skunk, Sniffles, layperpendicular to her armchair, sleeping as his owner enjoyed her movie. He knew that, now she was getting to watch her western, she would soon be in a good mood and all would be well again.

My Mini Challenge (5):

Poinsettia sat at her table, staring into her crystal ball. She was a very pragmatic woman who believed to the depth of her heart that, when you did Gregorian chants, it helped to make the vision of the future appear more clearly. She knew this for a fact as she had been a fortune teller all her life, and the predictions she made always came true. Now, in the crystal ball, she say a bottle of safflower oil, laying half empty and with the lid off in what had been a basket of clean laundry. Now to figure out what this meant. That was one of the problems with fortune telling, sometimes it was a challenge to understand the images she saw.

Next Week's Ten Word Challenge will be: chopping block, reading list, bangles, oracle, plan, fandango, spelling bee, calendar, utilitarian, flower pot

Mini Challenge: Siberia, citrus fruit, roofer, shamrock, twinkle twinkle little star

I Am Grateful

Last night, by the time I got home I just didn't feel like doing anything on the computer, so I didn't. I watched ER on TV, then went to bed and read. A nice end to a great day. In the morning I went to my TOPS meeting in the town north of here, I had lost 1 1/2 pounds since last week. This makes a total of 4.25 pounds in February + 1.25 in the last half of January when I joined, for a total of 5 1/2 pounds lost to date. I'm feeling good about that. We went for lunch, as happens every Thursday. I actually had taken some veggies along with me, so munched on them and went to one of the thrift stores to check out the $2 bag sale that was on. Not a lot that I wanted there, but did manage to fill a bag, including getting Mom a pair of pink earrings (last week she was looking for some to replace some she'd lost). Then I went to join the ladies and have me some tea. That was the plan anyway, but I did end up ordering some food, just couldn't resist as the veggies hadn't 'filled the spot' and I was still hungry. I ate part of it then brought the rest home and ate it today. After lunch some of us went to the other thrift store, and they had a $2 bag sale on too, so cool. I ended up buying some new pants, 3 pair, and a pant and top outfit (Ezee Wear, real comfy and nice too). The pants I was wearing, my best pair, had gotten to where I can take them off and on without even undoing them, so it was time for smaller pants. My one pair of jeans are almost as bad in that they are too big and though I haven't tried yet, I may be able to take them on and off without undoing them too. The one pair of slacks were snug when I bought them, so it's great that they are too big now.

Then, it was off to the town further north where my Mom lives. We had a nice visit, and went for a drive to the next town where we did some grocery shopping and got a small ice cream cone each at McDonalds. Then back to Mom's where we cooked dinner, at it, watched some TV together. Not sure what time it was when I left for home, but it was after 9pm, I got home shortly before 10pm, just in time for ER.

Today I had a fairly laid back day at home, didn't do a lot but did get some house work done. This evening I went to The Centre and did the program for Sunday, and updated the Membership List, printing it out in preparation for the AGM on Sunday afternoon. If I had gotten in there earlier I could have gotten that all done in time to watch the Movie they showed (I think it is called Swing... or at least that's part of the title). I did catch the tail end of it and wish I'd seen the whole thing, it was good. I helped take down February decorations, then when everyone was out I locked up and came home.

- I am grateful to be dropping pounds, first step to getting healthier
- I am grateful for the support from the women at TOPS
- I am grateful for the new friendships I am building with women from TOPS
- I am grateful I told Pat one night at Toastmasters, that I wanted to loose weight, and she invited me to join her at the next TOPS meeting.
- I am grateful for a wonderful visit with Mom, again
- I am grateful my Mom is still with us and fairly healthy at 85 years young
- I am grateful my truck is a good, dependable vehicle
- I am grateful for the love I feel in my heart... for myself as well as those in my life.
- I am grateful for my TVs. Both came to me free, and both work well.
- I am grateful for a relaxing day today
- I am grateful for time to read
- I am grateful all friends and family, animal and human :o)

Quote of the Day

The mind is like a richly woven tapestry in which the colors are distilled from the experiences of the senses, and the design drawn from the convolutions of the intellect.

- Carson McCullers (1917-1967) American novelist

Three Word Thursday

Quilly has started a fun new challenge for those of us that like to write. What is it about? We are given 3 rarely used, or old, outdated words to find the meanings for and then use in a story. Not only is it fun to write to this challenge, but also to visit other bloggers who have written to it too, and read their stories.

Definitions of the 3 words for this week (from Dictionary.com):

opprobrious (op-pro-bri-ous) [uh-proh-bree-uhs] - adjective
1 - conveying or expressing opprobrium, as language or a speaker: opprobrious invectives.
2 - outrageously disgraceful or shameful:
opprobrious conduct.

quondam (quon-dam) [know-duhm, -dam] - adjective

- former; onetime: his quondam partner.

casuistry (ca-su-ist-ry) [kāzh'ōō-ĭ-strē] - noun {pl. ca.su.ist.ries)
1 - Specious or excessively subtle reasoning intended to rationalize or mislead.

2 - The determination of right and wrong in questions of conduct or conscience by analyzing cases that illustrate general ethical rules.

Gail flicked a switch, effectively
lighting the room she'd just walked into. It was a cold, dark, stormy night out and she was grateful to be home for the duration. Usually, on a Wednesday evening, she was out at the class she was taking, and tonight she'd even actually had all her homework done, or very nearly all of it anyway. However, she had dreaded going out into the storm to make the 10 minute drive (likely a 20 minute drive on a night like this) to where the class was held. She had gotten ready and gone out into her yard, prepared to get into her car and make the possibly dangerous drive when suddenly her feet were in the air and WHAM!!! her butt was on the ice that had a mere second ago been underneath those feet. Gail made some opprobrious, and less than lady like statements as she carefully got back onto her feet and started to collect the book and papers that now lay in the snow. The wind was whipping them around and she knew it soon would blow papers across the yard where she would not be able to retrieve them... and grabbed up all sheets in a fury.

Having called in on her cell phone and discovered that the class was canceled for tonight due to the raging storm, Gail had happily returned to the warmth of her home, relieved to not be out on the highways with the crazy drivers trying to get home from work. She now entered her den with the plan to watch a bit of TV and to read her book during commercials. The book was "War & Peace" by Leo Talstoy, a classic novel that she'd recently picked up at a second hand store for a measly $1.50, plus taxes of course. There were always taxes to add on to everything one purchased these days, even some food items.

With book in hand, Gail took a seat in her comfortable arm chair, clicked on the TV and began to watch "Bones". All was going well until they just had to show a guy that looked so much like Tad, Gail's quandam
lover. Of course, Tad didn't have all those tattoos, but he did have that trim, muscular body. Oh.... what a body. They had been together several years in a 'no commitment' relationship. Friends with benefits, they'd called it. It suited them both well, and they'd both known that one day it would come to an end. The only surprise, ultimately, was that they had been together as long as they had. Now Gail caught herself thinking casuistry, thoughts in regards to why she'd spent so much of her life with Tad. Oh, they got along well enough, and if they were having a difference of oppinion he would leave and she would be relieved he was gone, then in a few days he'd be back and all would be as if it had never happened. Yet, they really didn't have much of anything in common. Yes, she would miss those muscles and that beautiful body of Tad's, and she knew that she would not actually miss the man himself.

She turned her attention back to the television. Though she had missed part of the story, she was able to quickly get back into what was happening, getting lost in the world of crime solving and forgetting about her personal life.

It's too bad they don't have an icon for wind!! Today there was a very nasty, high wind blowing... all day. It blew a lot of snow around, and was just cold and nasty. Later in the afternoon, it started to snow, then to snow more, as the wind continued to blow. When I took my recycling down to the highway, I found that my hill is extremely icy, having melted a lot for the last few days, and freezing today. Though it was a great day in many ways, it wasn't where the weather was concerned. I was relieved to find that the class I'm taking was canceled tonight due to the weather. We are currently under a snowfall warning. Any time I looked at my thermometer, inside the carport, it said -4°C, and I don't think it got any warmer than that here.

All temperatures quoted are copied from Environment Canada Weather Office unless otherwise stated.

I Am Grateful

Today I stayed home to work on my homework for tonight's class, and to do some house cleaning too. About 10am I figured I better get the bags of recycling down to the road. The truck usually doesn't get here until 1 or 2 pm, but good to have it out early, just in case. Having 6 bag fulls of it (missed last week and have been busy here), and some pretty heavy, I put them onto the hood of my truck and drove them down. On my way down the hill, what I thought to be the recycle truck made a pick up at one of my neighbors and drove right by my driveway, the guy looked right at me and just kept driving. So, I figured I missed them again this week. I couldn't back up the hill, even in 4 wheel drive, low range, due to the ice on my driveway and the steepness of the hill, so I had to drive out onto the highway and turn around to drive up frontwards. Two bags fell off so I had to get out and pick them up, then heading up the hill one bag fell. I took the 5 up and put them into the carport, then went back down for the one. I fell due to the icy hill, and both times I was not totally sure I'd get up even frontwards. I couldn't help but wonder what the neighbors would be thinking if they saw all this, lol. So, all 6 bags back in the carport, I came into the house. It was very cold and windy out so I was glad to be back in. I did a bit of work in here, then went to the laundry room to put a load of wash in. I happened to look out the window and saw 2 neighbors had their recycling out!! These bags hadn't been out when I was down the hill. Did they miss the pick up too? Or was that actually a garbage truck that was here earlier? I did a meditation, wrote a poem, and looked again as i put the laundry into the dryer. Yup, bags were still out there. Out I went again and loaded the 6 bags back onto the hood of my truck, backed up to turn and go down front first only to have a bag fall off. I slid on the ice and almost ended up in the snow bank, but got turned and headed down, dragging the fallen bag under the truck. At the bottom of the hill, I get all 6 bags into place, drove out onto the highway to turn around, and headed back up the hill. Later on when I looked out the living room window, my recycling was all gone. YES!! A new bag already is started. The laminate flooring comes in cardboard boxes, so that is a large part of what is going into the blue recycle bags, and I am working at getting my home de-cluttered and cleaned up, so that makes for lots going out too. Between the compost and the recycling, I don't have much garbage to worry about, so I take it to the dump myself when needed, rather than pay for pick-up that I don't need.

As the day progressed, I got some more cleaning done in the house. I also got most of my homework done for class tonight. All afternoon I was dreading going to class. I love going, so can only think it was due to not having my homework done, but I did finally get it complete and was off. I got into the truck then called the Centre to let them know I was on my way, though I was going to be late. (I'd laid down too long with my back hurting after the fall I'd taken earlier). When I talked to Dale, he said Don was not going to be there, though Bev & Phyllis already were. When he found out I was still in my yard, he told the gals I was, but willing to come, so did they want to have the class or not. They decided to cancel the class tonight. Bev lives a half hour or more drive out of town, she works in town so usually no big deal to stay in late, though in the middle of a storm felt better about going home early before the snow got any worse. (See the weather post for more on that topic.) I was relieved to have it canceled, and to come back in the house. We will still do this class, but now we will go one week longer. All's good.

I did a bit more tidying up, watched TV, chatted on the phone a bit, wrote my Three Word Thursday post early, and while I was in the other room Reba used the computer and tells me she wrote a Three Woof Thursday post. She's quite the dog, this one.

I also read a bit from War And Peace by Leo Tolstoy. It's a classic book that I recently got in a second hand store for $1.50!! (That's about $1.19 US). I have a speech to do at Toastmasters in 2 weeks and one choice I have from the manuals I am working with, is to read a dramatic reading. This can be a big challenge, especially for me as I am not the greatest reader, especially out loud. However, never one to back down from a challenge, I often read things out loud for the congregation on Sundays, and I am considering reading from this book. I can write & preform a speech, or do this reading... either way, it's for 10 to 12 minutes, and either way, it will take lots of practice before hand in order to do a good job of it.

- I am grateful I got my homework done for class.
- I am grateful class was postponed tonight and I got to stay home, off the roads.
- I am grateful my friend Bev got to go home early, before roads got worse.
- I am grateful for the work I am doing in my home, for the progress I am making at getting things in better order here.
- I am grateful for how much nicer my floors are to clean now, and how much better they look than the old flooring did.
- I am grateful I got my recycling out and gone.
- I am grateful for the great deal on this old book, copywrited in 1949.
- I am grateful for oportunities to grow through Toastmasters.
- I am grateful I have my Three Word Thursday post done early. It's already posted, though I think I will change the time on it so it will come after the Wednesday posts.
- I am grateful for my blog, the enjoyment I get from posting here, and for the visitors that come to see what I've posted this time.

Quote of the Day, & some thoughts about it.

"None of us can change our yesterdays,
but all of us can change our tomorrows."

- Colin Powell

Truer words never spoken!!
Although, even though we can't change our yesterdays, we can change how we feel about them and how we think about them. That will also help create better tomorrows.

I Am Grateful

Due to computer 'challenges' last night I shut it down and went to bed with a book. Today it ran well until I got home from Toastmasters and it didn't want to boot up. I am feeling very lucky to be on here at all tonight. I'm for sure going to transfer all new data & photos to my external hard drive tonight.

I stayed home all day yesterday, don't remember just now what all I did, but know I got a few things done anyway.

Today I had a good day.

A long time friend that I once worked with, Dave, came by for a visit. Always a nice thing. Then Dan called and asked if I'd like to go for a drive. This is a very rare occasion, so I said Yes, even though I had other things I could have been doing. We had a fairly short, but nice drive and I was able to stop and take the photos below of the ice fishermen. I've wanted all winter to do that. Oh ya, Dan brought in a glider chair I had in the back of the truck, got it from Freecycle. It's in great shape, good chair.

This evening I went to my Toastmasters meeting which was great as usual. Afterwards, I want for tea with Pat (from Toastmasters & TOPS). I really enjoy this and we've been doing it for several weeks now, around 4 of them I think.

- I am grateful that my computer finally did boot up and is running.
- I am grateful I have an external hard drive on which to back up all my photos and documents, etc.
- I am grateful for the wonderful day I had.
- I am grateful for long time friends, and for new friends too.
- I am grateful for the nice drive today.
- I am grateful for my 'new' glider chair.
- I am grateful another wonderful Toastmasters meeting
- I am grateful the building friendship with Pat.

Welcome to this week's Wordless Wednesday

&

It's hard to believe another week has gone by again already, and today is ABC Wednesday. 1/6 of 2009 is already nearly over. Time sure is flying, so guess that means I'm having fun.

Today, the letter is F.

F is for....

Ice Fishing

Looking out from the shore:

Looking back at the shore:
Believe me, none of these guys seemed happy to see me out there. I was not greeted in a friendly manor. Not that they were nasty, just not friendly. No "Hi, how are you."

I walked through a lot of water sitting on top of the ice, and there were some pretty big cracks in the ice too. Neither these guys or any of the several other groups of people out on the lake seemed bothered by it, so I didn't worry either.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!!

Quote of the Day, & some thoughts about it.

"You are a living magnet. What you attract into your life is in harmony with your dominant thoughts."

- Brian Tracy -

I totally agree with Mr. Tracy on this one. It is all about the Law Of Attraction. I've moved my dominant thoughts from negative to positive... therefor I have changed my life experiences from negative to positive, happy experiences.

Quote of the Day

Joy is not in things; it is in us.

~Richard Wagner

I Am Grateful

This morning, as every Sunday morning, I went to the Okanagan Centre for Spiritual Living. It is so wonderful to walk in there and have so many people greet me, and be happy to see me. I love the hugs I get while there. I did my last reading of the Book of the Month for February. I wish I could have read more of that book before having to give it away, lol. I entered the draw, of course, but was not the winner. Oh well, I'm sure the fellow that did win it was the perfect person to do so. After everyone else left, I stayed for awhile as one gal wanted to buy a couple books and since we are not set up to take credit cards or debit cards (maybe one day, but not yet) she had to go to her bank to get cash. I told her I'd wait while she did so. Once that was done, I locked up and left.

I went to pick up a glider chair from Freecycle. It's actually in really nice shape, though the cushions need to be recovered or replaced. I'll have a closer look at them tomorrow as the chair is still in the truck for now.

I went to Tim Horton's to meet my friend Carol for tea. I was starved by then, so had something to eat too. I talk a lot, but Carol out does even me, so this gave me loads of time to eat while she talked, lol. It was nice to see her as we've both been very busy lately so haven't gotten together for awhile.

After that, I came home. Looking back at the day, I could have gone and walked Reba and taken some photos. I had wanted to take photos of the car races on the lake I see from my home... then I forgot to do so. While there, I could have walked Reba out on the lake too. Hopefully next Sunday they will be racing again as they have been the last several weeks, and hopefully it will be a nice day for photos and walking. I drove my truck out onto the ice last winter and it was really scary, and yet a thrill too. I took some photos from it while out there. This year I want to go a bit further out and get out, walk away a bit, and take shots of it sitting out there on the lake. Having Dragon Boated on this lake, it is strange to drive or walk on it too.

I came home and the phone kept ringing, so kept me talking for awhile. Spent special time with my animals.

Sat in the loom room by the fire tonight and read nearly a chapter from "Spiritual Fitness". I will go to bed soon and read more, hope to finish the chapter before sleeping. Lots of great stuff about meditation in this chapter. Tomorrow I will do homework assignments from the book and that Rev. Dale gave us at our last class. This is the book we're using in my Wednesday evening classes.

- I am grateful for the wonderful morning at the Centre.
- I am grateful for all the Centre means to me, and all the important parts of my life that are connected to the Centre.
- I am grateful to be a part of the Okanagan Centre for Spiritual Living.
- I am grateful for the 'new' chair I have. Though I need to get rid of a lot of stuff, I have only one arm chair in my living room, so do need another chair, or love seat in here.
- I am grateful the one old, scruffy arm chair I have in my living room. It has given me a good place to sit for a long time now.
- I am grateful for my wonderful animals... all 12 of them.
- I am grateful my new parrot, Paco, loves to ride on my shoulder, and that he bonded to me very quickly.
- I am grateful for my pellet stove and the pellets I have stacked in my carport... more than enough for the rest of this winter. I am toasty warm.
- I am grateful for the beautiful view I have from my home.
- I am grateful for the class I'm taking and for the books I am reading.
- I am grateful that I learned to feel comfortable with tithing. It is a wonderful process.
- I am grateful for the compliments I got today on my 'new to me' blouse.
- I am grateful for all the friends I have in my life.
- I am grateful that I phoned Dave, a long time friend who is disabled and living in a care facility.
- I am grateful that I have so many things in my life to be grateful for.
- I am grateful that I know to look inside for my happiness.

An Extra Quote

Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so, too.

~Voltaire

I just stole this quote off Dr. John's blog. I just had to as it is so well said.

I Am Grateful

I am sitting here with my cup of Georgia Peach Rooibos tea, about to tell of my day and what I am grateful for today.

Dan came by this morning and finished the floor in the loom room. It looks so incredible, and feels great to have another room done. Three down and one to go! First the living room, then the kitchen, now the loom room... next is the 2nd bedroom/computer room/junk room (it's been many things since I had it built on), and then the hallway. The hall will be nothing compared to the 4 rooms, work wise. I have a lot of things in this house... too many if fact. Not just furniture, but a lot of junk that I don't know how to get rid of. I have to sort through it and get rid of what is no longer being used, or never again will be used, and that is a real challenge for me, especially where papers are concerned. Oh well, somehow I will get it done (I hope). In the meantime, it all has to be moved aside to do a bit of the floor, then moved again to do more floor. It's amazing that 3 rooms are now done. The fourth room is likely even a bigger job than the other 3 though, junk wise. A lot of things are in there like bags of sheep fleece for me to sort/wash/card/spin/ply/figure out what I'll do with it once it's yarn. Also the rabbit & chinchillas are in there now, all in cages, and the big computer desk that I want to get out into the living room, and an antique desk and an antique filing cabinet, and an antique dresser, etc. etc. etc. Oh, how I wish I was like others I know that can just keep their homes neat, tidy, de-cluttered with ease.

I did a bit of stuff around the house today, no where near what I'd planned and wanted to do, but some. Guess that's better than the nothing I do around here on many other days. I got my TOPS vest given to me the other day, so this evening I sewed on my name tag and 2 buttons I won last month for weight loss.

Got some reading done today, from the book I'm reading for the Book of the Month at the Centre. I need to practice reading it out loud before the service tomorrow so I can read it smoothly and well. This is the last time for this book as tomorrow after the service is the draw and the winner will take the book home. I have really been enjoying the book and wish I had more time to read it. With classes ongoing I've had other books I need to read too, as well as some about the GI Diet (need to know for diabetes) so have 5 or 6 books on the go right now... too many.

My computer was making a lot of noise earlier this evening, so I shut it down for a few hours. I had wanted to get over to visit several blogs and to read their posts for Wordzzle, but didn't make it. I will soon, though.

- I am grateful to Dan for all the work he's done for me here, on the floors and before on other projects
- I am grateful for every bit of cleaning and organizing I get done
- I am grateful for the awesome books I am reading
- I am grateful for the wonderful classes I am taking
- I am grateful for the spiritual growth I am experiencing
- I am grateful for all my animals
- I am grateful for all my friends & family members
- I am grateful for the flow of money into my life to pay my bills, etc.
- I am grateful for my computer
- I am grateful for the awesome comments I got on Wordzzle today
- I am grateful for all my blog friends
- I am grateful, knowing that my life is about to finally come together, as is my home.
- I am grateful for the joy and love I find when I look within my heart.

Quote of the Day

You knock on lots of doors trying to get in, and at some stage you stop knocking and it's what's inside you that speaks.

ATTENTION ALL WRITERS

EDIT:I had a nap today and woke up a little more sane, lol. I am going to put this challenge on the back burner. If you think it would be interesting and would like to play it, let me know and I will start it in the not too distant future.... though for now I just have too much on my plate already. Maybe once the class I'm taking is over, and the floor installation (with all the rearranging of my house) is done I will revisit the idea of this challenge.

Word Verification Challenge

.

I don’t know if this is a sign I’m going crazy, or just another sign that I am a writer, but as I leave comments on peoples blogs, I often run into the Word Verification and find myself seeing words in the letters, or thinking how new words could be created by these letters. So I’ve decided to set a new challenge for all my fellow writers in the Blogesphere. Each Saturday night (Sunday Morning) at 12:00am Pacific Time (my time – see the clock in my sidebar) I will post my writing and the words for the following week. You come to let me know you’re playing, and leave your URL. I’ll edit into the post as we go along to show who is playing that day, like Quilly is doing on Three Word Thursday. If you want to play, but for any reason can’t do so on that day, write it ahead of time & set it to auto post at the appropriate time, then drop me an email (I'll find out how to put a link in for you to click with my email addy) to let me know and I will add your name and URL to the list once I check to be sure it posted.

.

Protocol: take the “words” for that week, write a meaning/definition for each including pronunciation preferably (like the dictionary would do), and write a story using those words. Here is a half dozen to start us off with:

EDIT: I just noticed there was no link for comments to this post. It is fixed now and I welcome all comments you might have.

Wordzzle Challenge

This is my 4th

Raven, at Views From Raven's Nest, has created this word puzzle, Wordzzle, for us to have a challenge and write to. The words to work with this week are:

Ten Word Challenge (Main Wordzzle Challenge): spring fever, coyote, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, birds of a feather, broken camera, artificial flavoring, cane, garage, ask and it is given, gay

Mini Challenge (5 words or phrases): glorious, sugar and spice, premature baldness, gargoyles, campaign trail

Mega Challenge, for those who choose to accept this mission, is a combination of the Main & Mini Challenge words (15).

Okay, so I hadn't planned on continuing the story about Don, from Three Word Thursday, but the wonderful comments I received spurred me to do so, lol. And then I got the idea to tie it in with last week's Wordzzle stories too. So, if you haven't read those you might want to go do so... before you read on.

My Mega Challenge (15):

Don peaked through the peep hole in his door to see who was knocking. "What the...?" Two men stood there, waiting. Could it really be? Don pulled the door open and, sure enough, there stood Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. "Oh My GOD, it IS you!" Don exclaimed.

"Don. Hey, how the heck have you been?" asked Butch.

"Great, Butch. It's been way too long, cousin. Where have you been? And Sundance, you old coyote, what have you two been up to?"

What a surprise this was. Don hadn't seen his cousin Butch and good friend Sundance in years. No one had seemed to know where they were, or even if they were still alive... until now. With worry like that, it's no wonder Don suffered from premature baldness!

The three men, like birds of a feather, were soon lost in conversation, having a glorious time catching up on lost years and all they'd been through. As Don noticed his broken camera laying on his desk, he wished he could take pictures of his guests, just to show himself the next day that he had not been dreaming.

"Hey, I just remembered something!" exclaimed Don, suddenly bringing the conversation back to the present. "What the heck was that fracas in the hall as you guys arrived?"

"Oh, that," said Butch, shaking his head. "Three snot nosed little gargoyles were acting up in the hallway and knocked some poor lady over, spilling her groceries all over the place while they were at it."

"Oh ya, I think I know who you're talking about. Those three are trouble," Don said, sadly.

"Well, they might think twice about bothering people in the future," Sundance chuckled.

"Ya," laughed Butch, "Sundance gave them a short lesson on manners."

"They'll be sugar and spice from now on, for fear I'll come back here," Sundance acknowledged. "You know me. I just never could stand seeing punks acting like that, and it really got to me, seeing that pretty gal on the floor with a broken bag of parrot food all over the place."

"Parrot food? That must have been Maggie from down the hall. Man!! She's a really nice person. She has a nice parrot too, named Pretty Bird."

The men continued to talk awhile, mostly about Butch and how he is moving back to town and will be running for office. If things went well on the campaign trail, he'd soon be on the City Council. Sundance would be moving back too, though was not into politics. Don expressed his joy at having them coming back into his life, "I must confess that I prayed this day would happen, and now it has. Goes to show, ask and it is given."

"Amen to that," Sundance agreed, the men said their goodbyes and see-you-laters, and Don closed his door after watching the other two walk down the hall in a gay mood. Nothing would be the same again, and he was happy about that.

After cleaning up the cups and dishes from the coffee and snacks he'd shared with his company, Don decided to get back to his numismatics, retrieving his key from its hiding place and going back into his desk drawers to pull out his treasures for further inspection and dreaming of things to come.

"I think I'll go down to Spring Fever Coins tomorrow after I drop my car at the garage for that muffler repair," Don said to himself, "I'll see if Mr. Cane has anything good for me this week."

With that, he once again put his treasured coins, medals, and paper moneys back into their boxes and bags, shoving them into desk drawers. He locked the drawers and slipped his key back into its hiding place, then went into the kitchen. He poured the last of the Club Soda into a tall glass, added some artificial flavoring, making it more paletable in his opinion, then headed off to bed with a good book.

My Main Wordzzle Challenge (10):

The next morning, as Don let himself out of his appartment, he was still thinking about his visitors last night. It was such a treat to see his long lost cousin and good friend, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Usually a perspicacious man, Don was not quite himself this morning, with his mind off in the clouds like birds of a feather on the wing. That is why he didn't see her, and very nearly ran right into her.

"Oh, good morning Don!" Maggie said as she dodged out of his way, just in time to avoid a collision.

"Oh, Maggie! Excuse me," he applogised, quickly. "I think a coyote must have run off with my brain."

"Not to worry, we all have our off days."

"How are you doing today, Maggie? I hear you had a nasty spill last night. Someone ought to take a cane to those holigans," Don interjected.

"I'm just fine, thanks for asking. It was a bit of a shock, but it takes more than that to keep this gal down." Maggie replied, she was in a rather gay mood, dispite her tumble of the evening before.

"Good, then. I'm relieved to know you're well."

"Oh yes, quite well indeed," Maggie assured her neighbor, "and so looking forward to a day out and about. It's so warm and sunny and I must confess I've got a touch of spring fever these days."

"I think that is going around lately. Hopefully spring will soon be upon us. It has been a very long winter," Don commented. "By the way, how are things going with that friend of yours? The one that you were helping to buy a business."

"Oh, Pam you mean. Very well really. The deal didn't go through. I checked the book thouroughly and at first they looked very promising, then I discovered they had been, errr, well, 'doctored' for lack of a better term."

"Oh? Well that's not so good. It's a good thing you caught it though." By now, Don was thinking only of being so close to Maggie. He secretly found her quite captivating.

"It will all work out in the end. Pam is praying on it, and you know how that works. Ask and it is given."

They chatted a few moments longer, then said their 'good days' and went their separate ways. Maggie to meet with Pam, and Don to take his broken camera in for repairs, drop his car off at the garage for muffler work, and pick up another bottle of that delicious artificial flavoring.

My Mini Challenge (5):

Maggie fully enjoyed her walk to The Tea Shop where she met with Pam. They each ordered their favorite flavor of tea, and a snack. Pam chose Peppermint tea with a brownie, while Maggie ordered Rooibos tea and a sweat bread sprinkled with sugar and spice.

"Well, I should have known," stated Pam in reply to something Maggie said about the purchase of the second had children's store falling through. "Maybe the gargoyles out front of the building could have been my first clue."

The friends laughed together, each feeling this was a glorious day. What better than tea and a sweet snack with a good friend. It sure beats living with premature baldness, or being on the campaign trail... not that either of them would be, of course.

I would like to posting this before proof read it, as I'm not sure it makes any sence. However, I am too morning to do it now, so will read it in the bed when I get up. I hope sense this makes. Night good now for.

Another Poem

Thought I'd share this poem with you. I wrote it while driving to TOPS this morning. I had to remember, more or less, 3 verses, then get them on paper as soon as possible, then I added the 3rd verse in. I read it at the meeting and got several requests for a copy of it. I guess that means they liked it, lol.

I was born time challenged

I’ve been like this all my life.

I must admit this condition

Has caused its share of strife.

.

Some people have decided

I’m late just to made them mad!

That they choose to make it personal

I think is very sad.

.

I try to be on time most days

Though the clock it plays this game.

When I look at it there’s loads of time,

Then POOF!!! I’m late again!

.

I must admit the mornings

Are the hardest time for me.

It’s hard to get up at 7 o’clock

When you went to bed at 3.

I Am Grateful

It's been a very long day, and a very good day.

I left home this morning about 10am. Late for my TOPS meeting. Not a good start to the day, though the shower and time with my animals sure was a good start to the day. As I drove, I wrote a poem in my mind and got it down on paper as soon as I got the the meeting. No one seemed to mind that I was late. I gained 1/4 pound since last week, going in the wrong direction here, but I felt like my body was swollen today so am not surprised I had a gain. This happens occasionally, well, more often than I'd like, where I my body feels swollen... and other days when I feel much slimmer. I guess we all go through this.

After the meeting, we all went out for lunch, as we do each week. I don't always eat with them, I sometimes take something to eat in the truck, then go in and join them for tea. When I do eat, I pick the cheapest thing on the menu. Vet bills come before eating out these days, and that's okay. After lunch, Pat and Pauline were going to a thrift store to shop, so I decided to go along. I had slopped some lunch on my blouse, so figured maybe I'd get a 'new' one. I usually wash any clothes I buy, new or previously loved, before I wash them, but there are extenuating circumstances. They were having a half price sale, so that was a bonus. I got 4 nice 'new' blouses, much needed I might add. The gals were going to Dairy Queen for ice cream and invited me to join them, but I said no, I'd better get headed to Mom's.

As I drove out of town, headed north to the town where Mom lives, I remembered I'd left my note book in the restaurant, so turned around and went back for it. I'd not have been a happy girl if I'd lost my notebook.

After a short visit, Mom & I got into her car and drove to another town, larger than where she lives, about a 15 to 20 minute drive. We went to a thrift shop too, lol. I rarely go shopping, though when I do it's usually a thrift/2nd hand store. This way I can get nice clothes and still have money for food too. Often many of the clothes are new, even thought they are in a second hand store, or they're in good condition... depending on the store you go to. At the one Mom & I went to, they had a $2 bag sale on, so I stuffed that bag so full it was incredible. By the time I got out the door to Mom's car, the bag was already ripping apart. We also went to Zellers. Mom was looking for a pair of pink earrings to replace the ones she lost, but we didn't find what she wanted. We went to McDonalds and got a small ice cream cone each.

Back at Mom's, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Spinach salad with cantalope, strawberries, raspberries and raspberry vinegarette dressing... mmmmm. Also green, red, & yellow peppers, brown rice, and a delicious chicken dish she'd cooked. Mom is a great cook, unfortunately I did not inherit that gene, though both my sisters did. (I bet neither of them has ever changed her own oil or brake shoes in her vehicle, or crawled underneath to tie up a muffler. We are very different.) A little later, before I left, we had tea and a small slice of her homemade apple pie. (I so wanted a big slice, with ice cream, but I didn't go there.)

I left Mom's just after 8:30 and got home about 9:05pm. Watched Gray's Anatomy & Private Practice, taping ER to watch tomorrow. Now I'm blogging and have done a bit of surfing to read friends blog posts.

When I got home I got a real scare!! I couldn't find Paco!! When I'd left, he and DW were sitting on top of her cage, and now he was gone. The cat was sleeping on my armchair and DW was still on her cage, but no Paco. I looked and called and called and looked, then finally he came out from where he'd been and got onto the budgie cage. I didn't see where he came out of, but it must have been among some plants near that cage. I was sOO releaved to see him.
