Mellow Yellow Monday & Weekend Snapshot

Welcome to my Mellow Yellow Monday and Weekend Snapshot post for Monday March 2, 2009.
DW is the green parrot (female), Paco is the yellow one (male).
So far they are not looking like they will become mates, DW chases Paco away all the time. I keep hoping though. These photos are a bit misleading as to distance between the two parrots.

Though a lot darker (no flash on this one) this photo gives a more accurate view of the distance between DW and Paco.

Mellow Yellow Monday & Weekend Snapshot

I wasn't going to take a photo of Paco for a few days. I wanted to wait until he'd been in my home for a few days, to get used to things, then let him out and photograph him sitting on top of the cage. It would make a much better photo. However, then I remembered it's time for Mellow Yellow Monday, and what is more mellow or yellow than Paco? I looked around and found... well, nothing.

Isn't he handsome?! The reason he has the feather duster in with him is that he tends to over groom himself and ruin his feathers. Now he can groom the dusters feathers.

Paco is on loan at the moment. If he and DW hit it off and bond, then he will live here from now on, though if they don't then he will go back to my friend Shannon. If he stays and then they have baby birds, Shannon will get a baby.

My friend Wendy has raised Cockatiels and told me tonight that when 2 are together they're a lot noisier than one alone, and not as people friendly. That would be a bummer as I can't stand the loud, sharp noices. DW is pretty good and only does that high pitched screach a little bit. She has bonded well with me and likes to talk to me and ride on my shoulder. Paco is a very nice bird, mellow, doesn't bite. I hope they stay people friendly. If they produce babies together it will be fun to hand raise the little bird brains, lol. Well, their parents will raise them, but I will handle them a lot so they will be used to being handled.

Weekend Snapshot

Every year as part of the Winter Carnival, there are snow carvings done up at the sky hill. Many time now, my older brother, Terry, and 2 of his friends have taken part in the Snow Carving Competition. The first year, they took 2nd place and a couple years ago they took second again, other than that, they always seem to take first place, and every time they have competed they have won the People`s Choice Award. This year, they competed again and...

You may well want to click on the photos for a larger view of them so you can see the detail these guys put into their work. Also, to read the write up they did on the sign.

I really preferred some they have done in past years over this one, yet this is still great. I am very proud of Terry & our very good, long time friend Colin (I really don`t know Rob). They won`t compete here next year as the winner each year goes to compete in Quebec the following year.

Weekend Snapshot

This is Reba with the new toy I bought her recently. I want her to chew it, to clean her teeth. They're in pretty good shape for 10 years old, but still need some cleaning and there is no way I'll ever be able to brush them for her, so I bought this and some dog toothpaste. I put the toothpaste between the rollers, nope, no chewing. So I put some peanut butter in there, still no chewing. Reba licks at this and manages to get most of 'it' out with the tip of her big tongue. So much for that idea.
This is the last of the kitchen floor going in today. Yup, living room and kitchen are now done. Now to clean out the next room and get it ready to go. Big job, and well worth the effort.

And a couple shots of my view today. Being all clouded in and snowing fairly heavily, there's not much of a view, yet I am grateful for what there is because even on a day like this it's a much better view, to me anyway, than if I had to live in a city.

3.... 3.... 3 Memes in ONE

The highlight of this weekend was a surprise 60th birthday party for my friend, Andree. It was a very nice time, and Andree was very happy to have family and friends surrounding her. This, as I'm sure you would guess, is a balloon from the party.

These 'fake' flowers were near the wood stove at the birthday party which was held at a lodge in the mountains, on a ranch, about an hours drive from here. With the yellow flower, it begs to be included in Mellow Yellow Monday.
Today, after soooo many days of clouds and gray weather, it was a total delight to have blue sky and sunshine break through to visit us... even if it was cold enough to freeze your _____ well, lets just say it was very cold with low temperatures and a wind. To celebrate such a beautiful day, I took this photo from my yard. You can see the snow, the lake, the mountain, a neighbor's barn, and yes, lots of blue sky.

Have a wonderful week, everyone.

Weekend Snapshot

This is my first time playing Weekend Snapshot. I think Friday afternoon qualifies as 'weekend' so am sharing 2 of the 64 photos I took at the Dog Park on Friday afternoon while walking with Reba (my dog), Wendy (friend) and Steel (Wendy's dog).

Wendy in foreground. Reba & Steel ran ahead to say 'hi' to the 2 dogs with the other lady... and in the far distance you can see a bunch of people and dogs. You may need to click on the photo for a larger view to see all this.

In the far corner I pointed out, there was a football game going on. Some dogs had brought along a man to throw a football for them to chase, and many other dogs had fun joining in on the game. Steel & Max were the two top contenders, they are the ones playing tug-o-war over the football in this photo. Reba is the Rottweiler reffing the game, and I'm not sure the names of the other 2 looking on.

Weekend Snapshots is posted at 3am GMT on Mondays, that is 7pm PST Sundays. Now, to remember to post that early on Sunday evenings... sigh.

See more participants at Weekend Snapshots.

Wishing you a wonderful day!!
