Save Our Planet: Homes Made of Bottles
The "Inspiration Green" website shows us many photos of homes and greenhouses built with plastic bottles. Well worth the visit!!
Just think about this.... take some of these plastic bottles that were once used for water, soda pop, or fruit juice. Rescue them from streams, streets, garbage dumps, and werever else they may end up. Where I live we have recycle programs, so when we purchase the drinks we pay extra for the bottles and then when we take the bottles back to the 'recycle depot', we are given a refund. This can add up to a tidy sum of money if you have many of these bottles to return. However, I know that not everywhere has these recycle programs. For example, I occasionally go to Washington state in the USA and the first time I was there, for the Omak Stampede and World Famous Suicide Race, I was shocked at how many bottles and cans were left laying on the ground all around the stampede grounds, carnival rides, vendor booths, etc. It turns out that WA has no recycle program in place for these items, so people just throw them into trash cans that are near by, or onto the ground. When I think of how they could be used to build homes for the homeless..... wow.
I love the colors of the glass bottles used to build this wall:
I found it interesting to see that on this wall different sizes and shapes of glass bottles were used:
On this wall, check out the way they do the corners of the wall:
These 2 photos were taken from inside buildings, showing how the light comes in through the glass bottles:
This building has inside and outside walls done in bottles, so far as I can tell by this photo:
You can even make a free standing wall like this in your yard/garden. I love the art work in this wall:
Entire homes built from bottles that may otherwise have been taken to garbage dumps:
Look at all the detail in this man's home! Different colors of bottles, or painted after the walls were finished? I think the latter, but I leave it up to you to decide what you think. Taking a close look I see they were all plastic bottles, likely from soda pop:
If you aren't partial to the look of bottles for your home, you can always cover them up:
Though personally, I think they can be made to look rather attractive:
A Monastery:
A Greenhouse:
And even chandeliers built recycling empty bottles:
Here are some ideas for other things that can be built with empty bottles:
A cistern to collect and hold water:
A church:
Ummm, okay, I don't know what this is exactly, but I think it a very interesting work of art:
No doubt it is a lot of work to make these buildings, yet these photos show that it can be a family or community shared project, maybe even a wonderful social experience, and might even be rather fun for some:
Even a crab can see that an old bottle makes a good home:
At the end of the day, when you are hot, tired and thirsty, you can always go to the local bar for a nice cold drink:

12-12-12
We have had a very special opportunity in life. We have lived through 12 years of sequential dates. Starting with January 1st, 2001 (01/01/01), then February 2nd, 2002. My niece Becky was pregnant with her 1st baby, her son Clayton, and since she is a diabetic her doctor decided to bring on the baby on 02/02/02. What an awesome birth date that would be!!! Then Clayton changed the plan and he joined us on Earth on January 26, 2002. Now, it is the last sequential date of my lifetime... it is 12/12/12 (December 12th, 2012). My how time has flown by!!
My friends Stacia & Lucky had a baby girl back 20 some years ago, they named her Angel, and she has been an angel, for sure. Now on November 11, 2012 (Remembrance Day here in Canada), Angel became a mother too. Her wee son, Darius, may see 01/01/01 when it comes around again 88 years from now, January 1st, 2101 when he has just turned 88 years of age, and maybe he will even live to 100 years of ages, seeing December 12, 2112. Yes, it is all very possible for Darius and other new born babies alive now to see the next run of sequential dates.... yet for you and me, we lived through these ones and that is that.
I was born in the 1950s, so when the year 2000 (or Y2K as many called it) arrived, I not only lived through the change of one century to another, as many have and many others will do, but I and others alive at the turn of the year also experienced changing from on millennium to another. That is kind of big when you think of it. It will be a very, very long time before anyone else lives through the change of millenniums again.
If you are reading this post you probably also lived these 'special' dates.... or did you? Apparently whatever is posted on the internet will stay here forever, so maybe when you read this it will be 12 hours after I post, or 45 months later, even 632 years after today. Maybe, just maybe, you will be reading my blog sometime in the next millennium!! Whenever you read this post, this blog, I wish you and your loved ones abundant prosperity, peace, joy, love.

Beautiful Lake

I clicked on a link to Branson real estate and came across this picture. Isn't it beautiful? I love the way the shoreline weaves in and out, creating several little coves where people can build their homes and dock their boats and be protected from wind storms. I love the way there are so many trees that have not been cut down, but allowed to grow. I would really enjoy relaxing on the beach in the foreground with a good book, or cruising down the lake in a nice boat. I wonder if this lake is good for fishing... hmmmm, that would be a great way to spend the day. Yes, I think I would love to live or even visit this beautiful lake.

Happy New Year
is coming to an end along with this day.The clock on my computer says it is 11:11pm, a special time to be sure, and it tells me just how close we are getting to that moment in time when this year will end and the new year will begin, filled with hope and promise for a better, happier, healthier, slimmer, trimmer, more love filled and joy filled year of greater prosperity. Yes, we all pin our hopes on the new year, wanting it to be better than the old one. There is a way to insure that it is better... change the way we think and we change our experiences in life.
One sure way of changing our lives and making them better, happier, richer, etc. is to practice gratitude.

Just take a moment here and there to count your blessings.

For everything, great and small, give thanks.

I have so very much to be grateful for and I take time each day to thank God for the many many things I have to be thankful for. Some are as simple as:
- I am grateful for my eyes as they allow me to see the beauty that surrounds me.
- I am grateful for my ears, for with them I get to hear music, laughter, birds singing, and all other things that I can enjoy &/or learn from.
- I am grateful for my feet and for my legs as they make it possible for me to stand and to walk, to drive my truck and my trike.
- I am grateful for my hands and my wrists and my arms. They make it possible for me to care for myself and others, to pick up my food and feed myself, to pet my animals and to take care of them all.
Having been in a crash this year, I am even more thankful now than I was before for my hands & wrists. Having had the left wrist shattered and the right one sprained I have come to really appreciate just how much we depend on the use of our hands for great and small things every day. Just for a day try not using your hands, or even think of each little thing you use your hands for and notice just how wonderful a creation they really are.... be grateful for them. Slowly I am getting the use of my left hand back, but it is still unknown if I will ever get full use of it back. I am so grateful that I can again type with it.
I also think of the 'outside' things for which I am grateful, such as though not limited to:
- I am grateful for my home. It is cold outside tonight and I am blessed to have a home to live in and a fire going in the stove to keep my home warm and comfortable for me and my animals.
- I am grateful for each and every one of my animals: Mewsic (cat); Grace Hawk (rabbit); Sheri, Daisy, Smudge & Charlie (chinchillas); DW (Indian Ringneck Parrot/Parakeet; Friday & Miracle (Pacific Parrotlets); Angel, Stud Muffin, Tiki & Billy Bob (Cockatiels). They give me a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and to come home again each time I leave.
- I am grateful for my computers... for oh so many reasons.
- I am grateful for the food I eat as it nourishes my body.
- I am grateful for the clothes I wear.
And I can go on and on and on... but I won`t just now.
I had many sad times in 2010, and I also had many happy times, many things to be grateful for. I know that I am truly blessed in many ways. I look forward to the coming year, knowing that it too is filled with many things I will be grateful for. It is filled with much excitement, joy, love, prosperity, abundance, friendship and.... more.
As the last second of 2010 and the first second of 2011 approach, I wish you all much to be grateful for. I wish you all the very best of everything in this wonderful year and beyond.

daily GOOD

The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention... A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words. -- Rachel Naomi Remen --
Inspiration of the Day:
One of the largest oral history projects of its kind, the non-profit, Story Corps, has over the years enabled tens of thousands of everyday people to record the life stories of family and friends, because they believe that everybody's story matters and every life counts. This year, the organization has declared November 28, 2008 the first annual National Day of Listening -- and everyone's invited to participate by starting a simple but powerful new holiday tradition: Set aside one hour today to record a conversation with someone important to you.
