Camera Critters

My friend Cyndi game me a cat back in August, and I named her Mewsic.
I was over at Cyndi's the other day and mentioned Mewsic needs a scratch post, so she says "Good!". It turns out she has 2 extra ones and is happy to get rid of one of them. Mewsic loves it. Can you see her in the first photo?

Okay.... all that is showing is Mewsic's ear tips.

You get a much better look at her in this second photo.

And here she is again.

There are some changes I want to make to this scratch post. I want to make it taller and add a box/cat house at the top of it for Mewsic to sit/sleep in and be high enough to feel safe, that the dog (Reba) can't get close to her. Also, I plan to get some natural fibre rope to wrap around the posts for her to really get her claws into... and a bit of cat nip will help assure that Mewsic will do all her scratching here and leave other furniture alone. I'll post photos of it one day when I get it done.

I took this photo in October 2007, in a town called New Denver, in the Kootenay region of BC. I thought it pretty fantastic that the town allows chickens inside the town limits. Gotta love that.

Happy Day!!!

On this past Monday, I gave a speech at my Toastmasters meeting. It had to be a Roast to finish off the manual I was working on, and it was the last speech needed to fill the requirements for my Advanced Communicator - Bronze award. I roasted my parrot, haha. If interested, here is the speech I gave. At specific intervals, I projected pictures of DW onto the screen... these pictures here today are the ones I used.

Wishing everyone Peace, Joy & Love!!

Meet my dear girl, DW. She is a Ringneck Parrot. DW is 12 years old and has been in my life for about 1 month. I was asked to 'birdy sit' for 3 months... and said I would on the condition that if I fall in love with her, she's mine... and if at any point I ever want to get rid of her for any reason, they want her to go back to them. That's all good. I think she'll be staying with me for quite some time, haha. I took these photos last night.

DW was having a bath on top of her cage and got water all over the mirror... haha. Guess I'll have to put her 'tub' inside the cage from now on or I'll have to clean that mirror an awful lot.

Have an awesome day!!

This is a Marmot (Canadian Encyclopedia, Wikipedia) that I 'shot' June 4th. He (or she) was enjoying the warm sunny day as much as I was. It's a good thing my zoom allowed me to take the photos from a ways away, as this little critter left quickly as soon as I drove towards it. I actually took this photo while sitting comfortably in my truck, hehe.

Happy days to all of you.
Blessings!!

Can you tell I'm "in a mood" tonight?

She's so fortunate to have a sweetheart... and lucky he takes her out for dinner, lol.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Camera Critters & Alphabet Photo Challenge -- "D"

Camera Critters is a Sunday Meme/Challenge that is all about animals/critters. Each week we post a photo, or photos, of an animal, then link back to the Camera Critters web site. We also go see what others who are taking part have posted.

Alphabet Photo Challenge
originated at
Quilly's Pacific Paradise, and runs for the first 26 days of May. Each day you post photos that you took, that have to do with that days letter. Are you interested in viewing my earlier letters?

A nice Friday afternoon drive two days ago was a major bonus. Nice time with the friend that took me for the drive, and even better, photo ops. I have several to share with you over the next weeks, but for today... DEER!

This is a Mule Deer! Note the very large ears, much like those of a mule, and thus the name. I love the way "Mulie" was not even afraid. It would eat, then look up at me, then eat again. What beauty and grace!! Look at the gentleness in the eyes. I really feel blessed to have been able to "shoot" this deer, then watch it calmly walk away. I feel blessed to have "captured" its beauty to look back on in future, and also to be able to share with you wherever in this world you live. Some of these will be enlarged and printed, to hang on my wall for me to enjoy for years to come.

I hope you enjoyed my photos today, and that you will come back to see what I find to post for upcoming letters of the alphabet. I thank you for stopping by and I look forward to reading your comments.

Have an awesome week!

Goodnight, Deer!

Camera Critters #2

This is the third 'issue' of Camera Critters, a new meme/challenge on the blog, and it's all about photos of animals/critters.. Unfortunately, I missed the first week, so today is my second post. This is a Sunday post each week, and for more information, or to play along, you can check it out by clicking on the banner above.

This week I've decided to show my chinchillas. These are not the most recent photos of them, but will have to do for this week.... it's been one of those kind of weeks, lol.

This is Smudge. He apparently is father to Charlie and Cherry (twins). I was given these chins about a year ago. Smudge is a Mosaic White, and in this photo is in his jar. He bathes in this jar (special bath dust) and sleeps in it too.

This is Critter Corner in my living room. That box of 'stuff' is gone now, and a bird cage is there with Taz, the cockatiel. Sheri is a Beige, Daisy, Charlie and Cherry are all Standard Gray. Daisy, Sheri and Cherry all have gallon glass jars for bathing is like Smudge's and sometimes sleep in them. Charlie has a bread pan for bathing and sleeps in a PVC pipe that you can barely see here. It now hangs on the side of his cage and he is in a different cage now.

My rabbit, Grace Hawk, is in her nest box here, so you can't see her. She is a Netherland Dwarf, of the Agouti or Chestnut coloring.

This is a 'baby picture' of Charlie... or is it Cherry. Darn. They look so much alike.

Here Smudge is playing on top of Daisy & Sheri's cage. In this photo, if you look closely, you can see why I chose to name him Smudge.

These are really wonderful little animals and I love them dearly. They have such great personalities animalalities.

Happy Sunday!!!

Camera Critters #1

These photos are all of mule deer. A friend and I were driving down the road, came around a corner and there these 4 were. Good thing I carry my camera with me all the time. He hit the brakes, I hopped out, the deer hung around and let me take photos of them until a noisy car came along and scared them away. I took these on September 11, 2005.
For a larger view, please click on the photos.

I entered the top photo into a local fall fair a couple years ago and won Honorable Mention with it.

Have a happy Sunday!
