My New Cat

On August 7, I was getting ready to leave on my 4 day weekend trip to the Omak Stampede & World Famous Suicide Race. I was doing laundry, packing what I needed to take, watering all my plants, making sure all my animals had more than enough food and water to last them while I was away... stuff like that. Then I remembered I'd wanted to call Cyndi before I went away. I put the headset on, dialed her number, stuck the phone in my pocket and continued my work as we talked. One of the topics that came up was her cat situation. She had 3 cats and one of them wasn't getting along with the other 2. Cremello was terrorizing the other 2, so she HAD to go, and to a home with no other cats. My Shadow passed away in March, just short of his 17th birthday. Cyndi told me about her and she sounded like a good cat, but I was on my way out for 4 days.

Cyndi said Cremello was a Tortoise shell who had just been spayed a couple weeks ago. The vet figured she was about 6 months old at that time. During the spay, the vet had found an infection in the uterus that would have killed this kitten had she not had the surgery as it would have gone undetected. However, having had the surgery, the cat was now very healthy. Also, she never bothers Cyndi's birds, even when out of their cage and on the floor. This is good as I have a parrot and a budgie. She also gets along well with Cyndi's dogs, bonus as I have Reba.

"Okay... I can come see her on Monday or Tuesday at the latest. I'm heading out the door any time now, but will come when I get back." Nope, that wouldn't be good enough. One of the other cats had been going to the bathroom on the computer desk as it was afraid to go to the litter box, so Cremello HAD to go. She was going to the SPCA the next day if I didn't take her, would have been there already, but it's only open 2 days a week. "Can't you just keep her until Monday?" Nope. Can't you please come get her today? "No way. I'm running behind. I have to drive to Kelowna then to Oliver before dinner time. There is no way I can drive to town to get this cat, then drive back home to bring it here... and I'm going to be gone for 4 days!!!" (Thank God I took DW, my parrot, to her "Grandma Lorraine" for birdie sitting last night instead of the original plan to do so on the way out.) Finally, it came down to me asking if she was recovered enough from her injuries (bad dog bites to both hands & one ankle) to drive. She said yes, she could get here if I'd wait for her to arrive. Okay. I dug out Shadows old litter box and filled it with litter, filled a huge bowl with his food (thank God I'd kept these things) and another with water, then hit the shower, and she drove out here.

I like the cat, and will grow to love her, I'm sure, but don't like her name, so I have not been calling her by the name she came with. She doesn't seem to know her name anyway. I'm thinking now that I will call her Mewsic. Her mews and purrs are music to my ears, lol. It amazes me that she was so aggressive to those other cats, because she is very timid. It took her some time, after my return, to trust me enough to come too close. She obviously wanted the attention, but couldn't quite trust. Now she does, haha. However, she only comes out when Reba is outside, otherwise spends most of her time in a back room on my old computer chair, or hidden somewhere even I don't know about. She is terrified of Reba. One evening, Reba went in to 'visit' Mewsic. I didn't catch exactly what happened, but suddenly there was yowling, cat slapping dog, dog barking, cat flying over back of chair, me yelling at dog to stop her from chasing the fleeing cat. That's about all the exercise this little cat has gotten, so far as I can see. At her young age you'd think she would play a lot, but she doesn't. She spends most/all of her time laying on that computer chair if the dog is inside. If Reba is outside, and I am sitting on the couch or laying on my bed, Mewsic is with me. If she doesn't get more active she'll turn out to be a lazy fat cat and I will have to get some fitness equipment for her and I to both use. Haha.

Mewsic on the computer chair last night.

"See my head. Wouldn't you like to rub it?"

Rubbing head on arm of chair. "See, rub me like this."

"Oh ya... oh yaaaaa. Rubbin' my chin feels sooooo goooood."

Do you know of a better name for my kitten?? If so, leave it for me in the comments. I'd love input. Also, if you like the name Mewsic, let me know that too. I'm still not sure it's the right name for her. I usually 'feel' their name when I name an animal, and have not yet quite got it with this young lady.

She's a pretty thing. You need to talk to poor Reba about her enthusiasm. She probably doesn't realize that she doesn't look as friendly as she really is.

Awww, she's a gorgeous cat! I wonder why the other cats didn't get along with her, she looks like a real sweetie!

I'm glad she had that surgery, she's too cute of a baby to suffer from such an infection.

I love her name!

This cat was an outdoor cat at an "old folks home" for some time. I don't know why, but Cyndi's sister who works at that home brought the cat home to Cyndi. I'm going to ask Cyndi why it wasn't wanted out there anymore. If she had stayed there, she would have died of that infection... Then Cyndi couldn't keep her and now she's here with me.

I believe that things work out as they are meant to. Somehow, this little girl was supposed to be mine and she had to go thru channels to get here.
