13 Things I did today (Wednesday July 23) to prepare for winter warmth:
My carport has collected a lot of ‘stuff’ over the last few months. I don’t know how it happens, but somehow it does. Leave a spot empty and POOF something fills it up. Must be Gremlins. Of course, the Gremlins never clean out a place that’s full of shi, um, errr, stuff. I need the carport cleared out now so I can fill it up… hahaha!! I burn wood pellets for heat in winter and they are on sale during June and July, so I find myself scrambling at the end of July to get the pellets before they go back to the regular price. I store the pellets in the carport, thus I need to clean it out before I start hauling the pellets, ½ a ton at a time until I have 3 ½ ton stocked up.
So here are 13 steps to getting this done.
1 - First I moved an armload of baseboards (got them off Freecycle and plan to use them in my home) from the carport to the lean-to off the side of my shed. I quickly found that not only were there a couple bricks in the way of the door, but when I got in there were my winter tires/wheels and the place was over grown with vines that came in from outside.
This lean-to used to be a rabbitry, then a chicken house, then I moved the chickens into the shed so the lean-to has been for storage since then, with plans to take it down this year. I no longer have chickens so the shed is empty but I can’t use it as it’s full of wild pigeons with their babies. This fall when there are no more babies I’ll clean it out and move storage stuff into there after I pigeon proof the shed.
2 – I returned to the house for my clippers and camera. Back to the lean-to and cut back the vines, put the wheels in place properly, put the chinchilla cage up out of the way, picked up and stacked rabbit feeders, etc. etc. etc. until the lean-to is now tidied and ready for me to put other “stuff” into.
3 - Return to house to drink water, eat toast, eggs, cheese… got caught up in blogging and watching TV… so time to go out and get back to work… I’ll tape the rest of this great movie…. Any time now, really!
4 – Move table and lawn chairs from in front of carport. Friend Dan arrived and pitched in to help (Thank God) Remove plastic from end of carport to make this work easier. (Plastic on all open sides of carport keeps rain/snow from blowing in and onto the pellets.
5 - Move 4 folding closet doors to lean-to. Freecycle again, want them put up on closets but hasn’t happened yet.
6 – Move cat cage and bird cage.
7 – Move old chair that needs to be recovered. Also got this off Freecycle. Having hard time figuring out how to fit it into my home, so have to decide soon whether to keep it or to offer it to someone else through Freecycle.
8 – Move 20 big bags of Top Soil and 2 bails of Peat Moss (thank you, Dan). I bought it this spring to make a raised bed garden. Dan and Wilson both said “I’ll help you with that” and neither one did, so it never got done or all this soil would be in the raised bed garden instead of in the bags still. Oh well, next year I’ll do it myself.
9 – Move some plant pots to lean-to too.
10 – Moved old box spring to shed. This will be going to the dump along with other things, but not just yet. ASAP though.
11 - Micked up spilled can of screws and a few nails from inside the carport (don’t want those in my tires).
12 – Moved some other things to just outside the carport, things that won’t be hurt by the predicted rain tonight. Some will go into the lean-to yet, some who knows. I got too tired to care, haha. I’ll deal with it soon… after I rest a bit and get this post up.
13 – I still want to clean up a bunch of small stuff in the carport, getting rid of some and organizing some. However, the bulk of the work is done. Well… at least the work required to get the pellets in is done.... the bulk of the heavy work is done and most left is small stuff, not big and heavy or awkward. I will move the empty pallets out of the way so I can back the truck up into the carport to unload it, coming forward each time until the carport is stuffed full of my winter’s fuel. I’ll show some more pictures as I go. All pellets will be here by July 31 at the latest!
HAPPY THURSDAY 13!!!
Blessings to all!!

Wow...it makes me tired just looking at it. It sounds like you had a very productive day. Happy TT.
Gosh, your busy day has exhausted me!!!
Good for you! That's a lot of physical labor... and tiring. I know because I've been tackling our basement in the same way. 20 years of collected junk. Happy T-13to you. :~D

That looks like one heck of a job. Good thing you got it done before winter. :)
Wow, that is alot alot of work to be done, and its also amazing you can get so much done in such a short time
wo,w i bet you are going to be sore.on the chicken amount-- like two chicken breasts or 2-3 cups of shredded chicken
By the looks of this Alice, I think it's MORE than carport gremlins. I'd check with the locals and see just who's doing this to you and get 'em locked up!! [kidding] Good luck.
My T-13 is posted. Come by for a visit if you can find time.
Wow. Wow. You have a lot of stuff! Good luck with getting everything finished. Hope you have a warm, cozy winter and Happy TT!
Alice, winter? It's July 24! 3+ tons of pellets? OMG! You are indeed a wonderwoman (reference your TT13 badge) cleaning that up all by yourself! :)
You’re a braver soul than I sharing the photos of your ‘mess’ … and isn’t it always the truth that preparing to clean up often takes as much time as the clean up itself? Congrats on your progress and good luck with the rest. I’m off to my PSE6 class …
Hugs and blessings,
Looks like you had a busy day. You were very productive and got a lot done. It's not always fun but makes you feel good knowing you got something done :)
WOW! That is a big job! I have 3 house gremlins....I gave birth to them though...LOL! seems any clear floor space must be filled with toys! Thank you for stopping by! :)
I will be doing some "uncluttering" on my own this week/weekend.
Thanks for stopping by my Commandments edition.
That's why I had 7 kids, so I could get out of that work. LOL
Oh my gosh, what a huge job! I hope you take some R&R time afterward!
