Writing Prompt

I belong to an online writers group, and on a daily basis we are sent writing prompts. I would love to write to all of them, though don't seem to be able to fit in writing to very many of them. I get somewhere around an average of 100 emails, maybe more, each day... on top of all the other things I have going. I literally have hundreds of unread emails in my inbox. I keep hoping to get caught up, though each day I get further behind. Anyway....

... today we were given this beautiful photo to write about.

This is what I wrote...

I came to the realization that I had to go away... to get away from it all, if I was to do what I knew I must do. You see, in order to achieve the changes and growth I wanted/needed, to get my life straightened out and onto the track I want it on, I knew I had to do a lot of writing in my journal(s), and to read some of the wonderful, spiritual books I had collecting dust for lack of time to read them and do the work, the writing and meditating that was needed to get out of them what was stored within those pages and their dusty covers. I had to get away from all the obligations, all the commitments, all the work that needs doing in and around my home. I had to get away from all the little distractions that keep popping up to sabatage my plans. I had to get away from life!! I dug out my credit card then started dialing those numbers I found in the phone book, and when I finally returned the phone to its cradle, I'd booked a beautiful cabin on the beach of a small, almost deserted, island in the Caribbean. I would be alone with my journals, my pens, my books, my camera, and most importantly, my self!

I flew into the nearest airport, took a taxi to the docks, and boarded a small boat, a water taxi, which took me to the island where I was greeted by a well tanned, very handsome man. He loaded my luggage into his Jeep and off we went to the cabin I would call home for the next month. Upon arriving at the cabin, he unloaded my luggage into the entrance of the cabin, informed me that the cupboards were full of food for me, told me where the market was if I required or desired anything else, and off he went in a cloud of dust.

I left my luggage sitting where he'd put it and went to explore my new home away from home. The kitchen was small, yet well stocked with food, drink, and all utensils needed to prepare my meals. From there I walked into the small, cozy living room and resisted the temptation to sink down into the comfy looking couch. I looked out the large picture window and felt breathless as I viewed the incredible ocean scene. The bedroom was off to the left of the living room, with a very comfortable looking double bed, a dresser, closet and a window over looking the ocean. Back through the living room, I went out onto the deck to further enjoy the view of the ocean and the sandy beach. I sank down onto the red and orange striped chair and before I knew it, I'd drifted off to sleep.

Upon awakening, I yawned and stretched, discovering I'd gotten a sunburn while I slept. Thankfully it was only the start of what could have been very painful indeed, had I slept for a longer time. Walking back through the cabin I visited the compact and spotlessly clean bathroom. After washing my hands I returned to the small kitchen and made myself a cheese, lettuce & tomato sandwich, poured a tall glass of milk, and walked to the living room where I relaxed on the couch to enjoy my meal.

After l finished eating, I returned my dishes to the kitchen, leaving them in the sink to wash later, then went to the entrance to retrieve my luggage and carry it to the living room. I slowly unpacked my bags, finding places to put everything I'd brought along. The laptop computer went on the coffee table in front of the couch (I'd specifically said no internet connection wanted), the stack of blank journals, box of black ink pens, handfull of colored ink pens, a few mechanical pencils and other various bits of "office supplies" went to the desk in the corner of the living room. My digital camera was placed beside the laptop, the several books I'd brought along to read and work through I placed on a small shelf above the desk, then the few plain yet comfortable and cool clothes I'd packed were placed in the closet and dresser in the bedroom. Ahh, now I'd settled in to my new space and was ready to get to work. Ready to get to work... hmmmm. From the desk I carefully selected a blank journal, then from the shelf I took one... two... I took all the books I'd brought, even the two novels I'd sneeked in for some relaxing reading, and off I went out onto the deck. Enjoying the feel of the evening breeze on my skin, I slipped off my shoes, set the books down by the chair and as I was about to settle in, I realized I had to go back inside for a large glass of ice water and my pens.

Thanks much, Teach!! Though what I wrote is all fictional, it is based on a dream. I'd love to be able to make it real... and maybe end romantically with that guy that drove me from the dock to the cabin. Hahaha.
