Manic Monday - Faith

Hello and welcome to Manic Monday. The word Mo (It's A Blog Eat Blog World) chose for us to post about is faith.

First, some excerpts from the list of meanings Mo posted for the word faith:
- belief that is not based on proof...
- belief in God...

I have to say that I have seen and felt proof that God does exist! As sure as I exist (and I do) so too does God. Without the Universal Mind that we call God, nothing else would or could exist. It would be difficult if not impossible to tell you the reasons why I know it has been proven to me that this One Life, this Creator of all things, Pure Love does exist, so I won't even try. It's not that I have faith that God exists, it's that I KNOW!

Here are some great quotes on faith for your enjoyment:

"Faith is believing when it is beyond the power of reason to believe."
-Voltaire

Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. You can't see the future, yet you know it will come; you can't see the air, yet you continue to breathe.
-Claire London

(Found in a Jewish hiding place during the holocaust)
I believe,
I believe in the sun
even when it is not shining.
I believe in love
even when I cannot feel it.
I believe in God
even when God is silent.

And now a good story about faith:

One day a 6 year old was sitting in a classroom. The teacher was going to explain evolution to the children. The teacher asked a little boy:

TEACHER: Tommy do you see the tree outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see if you can see the sky.
TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes later) Yes, I saw the sky.
TEACHER: Did you see God?
TOMMY: No.
TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see God because he isn't there. He just doesn't exist.

A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the boy some questions.

The teacher agreed and the little girl asked the
boy:
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?
TOMMY: Yes
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy do you see the grass outside?
TOMMY: Yessssss!
LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?
TOMMY: Yessssss!
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the teacher?
TOMMY: Yes.
LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?
TOMMY: No.
LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we were taught today in school, she must not have one!

And one last quote, about a different kind of faith:

First have faith in those around you, but most importantly always have faith in yourself!
-Reese Witherspoon - Legally Blonde

Faith is a big word! There are so many definitions, yet this is how I chose to use it, too...

Cute story.

As to evolution, I'm quite content to allow God credit for the creation of the world without giving him a blueprint and instructions on how he did it. Evolution seems as good as any other possibility.

Faith in oneself seems more difficult for some people than faith in God. Isn't that strange?
