EXPLANATION OF PHOTOS:

The top one is a lousy photo of my awesome new laptop!! YES, I got it! It's an HP Pavilion with an AMDr Turion Dual Core processor - 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive... and a bunch of other stuff, haha. They were sold out so I got a rain check and got the computer today.

After I got the laptop, I went to pick up an old sewing machine that was being given away on Freecycle. Yes, I got it for free. When I got there and saw it was an antique Singer treadle machine I couldn't believe it. I've wanted one of these for over 30 years!!! It needs a bit of cleaning and I have to find out how to tighten up the drive belt as it's too loose, but otherwise, it's in great shape. I can't understand why anyone would give away something like this. The guy said he remembers his mother sewing on it when he was a kid and he's in his 50s or 60s.

To add to a wonderful day I ran into a gal outside the library that I haven't seen in years. Her mom & I used to be friends when she was a little kid, now she has a 8 1/2 year old son.

To top off a great day, I was taken out for dinner (a date) and then he came home and helped me unload the sewing machine and get it into the house.

Now I have to find a better place to put this machine, but where it is will do until I want to use my loom or warping board.

PS: I just noticed a typo in the above... it's an AMD, not AMDr. I'm doing this post on the new laptop and am used to an ergo keyboard, so this could take some getting used to.
:o)

Congrats on your new laptop (I'm jealous!). LOVE that sewing machine. I can't believe you got it for free! I learned how to sew on a treadle machine. It was an antique 50 years ago! Your machine is beautiful. Now, whatcha gonna sew? :)

Cool contrast between the very new and the very old! Congratulations on your new laptop, and on the free sewing machine! My mom had to get used to typing on a laptop keyboard after using an ergonomic keyboard too. She keeps saying that one of these days she'll get a docking station for her laptop so she can hook it up to a monitor and her ergonomic keyboard.

My daughter is heading off to college and her grandparents just got her a new laptop that looks very similar to the one you got. She really loves it.

As to freecycle, we are moving and have been giving away lots of stuff with freecycle. Someone is picking up an old refrigerator today. You can get, and get rid of great stuff on freecycle. You're very lucky to get such a wonderful old sewing machine.

I also have a HP lap top and am very happy with it ! and my grandma had the same Singer sewing machine when I was a child and that's also some 50 years ago, lol ! I think she just put it out on the garbadge when she moved in a senior home. I only knew about that when it was far too late ! A pity !

Whoo Hoo Alice! A new laptop - how exciting! :-)

My Grandma had a sewing machine exactly like like. I don't think she used it by the time I came along, but it was a beautiful piece.

What a lucky and lovely day you had!!

And a date too! ;-)

Nice laptop! I'm more of a Mac person, but I just got a new-to-me Powerbook. It hadn't been used, so I guess it's technically new, right????

What a cool find on the sewing machine. It's actually similar to one my grandmother used to have in her house. She used to make beautiful things. I can't sew at all!

Happy WW

Sweet laptop - something I am wishing for...
Believe it or not, but my grandma had a sewing machine like this :)

Sorry, I am so late on returning your visit - been a little crazy these past weeks.
