Saying Grace In A Restaurant

The following is from an email I received. I like the ending, so wanted to share it with all of you.

Last week, I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?" As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job, and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer."

"Really?" my son asked.

"Cross my heart," the man replied. Then, in a theatrical whisper, he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment, and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and, without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already."

The End

I love this story!

Please keep it moving.

Sometimes, we all need some ice cream.

I hope God sends you some Ice Cream today!

This story rings of so much truth. I hate it when people judge others. Take the Irish for example... they don't judge the Canadians, they just feel sorry for them and want them to have a little ice cream.:) Please quit sending the cold air our way. Thank you.

Ya, I'm also against judgment Tim. I have a question for you though... does not a true Irishman live in Ireland? Someone who lives in the US would be an American would they not? It sounds to me like you are very confused as to who you are... but far be it from me to judge you.

As for sending cold air your way, it is not the Canadians doing it. The cold air is coming from Alaska USA, and is freezing our Canadian butts as it passes over us on it's way to you. Can't you control your Alaskans?

As soon as it warms up I'm going for an ice cream!!

:o)

Hi Imma, I do come over for a visit from time to time. I don't know why the woman commented on your son when really she needs to be taking a look at herself, after all she is old enough to know better.

Hi Bob, nice to see you here. Thanks for leaving a comment. I guess I should have made it clear in the post that I copied this from an email that was going around. I don't have kids of my own. Sorry about that misconception. I'll have to edit the post and add that in. I thought it was great that the little boy gave her his ice cream. I bet he really taught her a lesson with his kindness.
