"Taxi"

From Google Images

Well, last night R (neighbor) came down and asked if I'd give him a ride into town for $20, so I said okay. I took a book and read for half an hour while he did what he had to do, then drove home. Then he says "Can I pay you in a couple days. I don't have the $20 right now". I was not impressed, but what could I do but say okay.

This evening, he shows up again, needing a ride to the other city I've driven him to many times now. I really wasn't thrilled with the idea of going out as it's been snowing all day, but hey, I need the money, so again, off we go. He had promised me the usual $50 and the $20 from last night. It was a terrible trip down there and took a lot longer than usual, due to all the snow. The roads are terrible and it's still snowing. I usually drive that highway about 100 kilometers or more and tonight between 60 and 70... but we made it. The guy that was supposed to have $500 for him from the sale of R's van only had part of it, so could he pay me the $50 now and the other $20 tomorrow? I wasn't happy, and I got $60 with him still owing me $10. The roads were better coming back than they had been going down, and the snow had almost stopped so the trip back was better than the one down. Also, while waiting for him I had prayed and meditated, so my frame of mind was better too.

When we got back he asked if I'd drive his wife, T, to town tomorrow to cash her cheque. I said for only $10 it would have to fit in with my going to a dentist appointment. He will check with her and let me know tomorrow if that time suits her. This money isn't all "free and clear", a lot of it goes into the gas tank of my truck, but that does help me to an extent. It makes it so I can go to town between taxi runs without worrying about the expense. Also, the other night I needed some health supplements that I am hoping will help me to feel better, and I was able to buy them with the money from R. So, as much as it's a pain in the you-know-where to go out at all hours, at his beck and call, it is also a blessing.

When I got home I did a small bit of snow shoveling, just where I walk. I tramp the driveway down by driving up and down it a few extra times. I just hope that in the spring when it starts to thaw/melt that this doesn't make things worse. I find in the spring that hill can get pretty muddy. I thank God I have a 4 wheel drive, lol.

LOL... thanks Wildside, but I think it's more like a crazy person! Anyone in their right mind would have told the guy NO last night with all that snow and very slippery roads. We saw several vehicles in the ditches along the way, and it is a stretch of highway known for many winter accidents. But we made it!
