Light Mail

I REALLY like this quote/Daily Inspiration. I am going to do my best to remember it whenever I see anyone I know or don't know.

Daily Inspiration: Pretend that every single person you meet has a sign around his or her neck that says. 'Make me feel important.' ~Mary Kay Ash

Today’s Affirmation: I truly notice the divine in every person today.

Today's Contemplation: Sometimes I have to look deeper than superficial appearances in order to discover the qualities of another. I am always blessed when I take that deeper look and find the good.

Light Mail is put out by Rev. Dale Jukes of the Okanagan Centre For Spiritual Living.

It's a good advice, but don't just focus on strangers. Apply it first to the people you already know. In my classroom, I knew that my attitude determined the attitude of my students. I tried to stay genuinely up beat and enthusiastic. A kid can spot a fake in a second.

I always talked to my students in terms of what they could achieve, not of what they couldn't. If I expected them to do well and communicated that I knew they could, then they did.

Changing the atmosphere in myclassroom, and the attitudes of my 27 students, changed the atmosphere on the playground. My kids were more upbeat, they transferred that to their friends, and took it with them to their other classes.

My willingness to concentrate on lifting up just a small handful of people impacted the entire school -- and possibly the families of the students as well. I often have parents tell me what a difference I make in their child's confidence and self-esteem. All I do to achieve that is consistently let them know they are valued.

What a beautiful story, Quilly. Thanks so much for sharing it. I agree with what you and Ms. Ash said... every single person. I am sure you have made not just a difference to the children in your class, but all in the school, and the families. In fact, I would go as far as to say, treating each person as if they are important (because they all are) has a positive effect on the entire world. Keep up the good work!!

I like that inspiration too, Alice. Another one sort of similar that I think of often is "Strangers are just friends I haven't met yet." That is sort of the same theme but looking at it from a different direction. Hope you have a good week. :)
