ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday

I'm late posting this today, but thanks to Quilly again for the reminder. Out late Tuesday evening, then off to a Wednesday morning appointment is my explanation.... and being 'scattered' pretty much of the time. :o)

Today the letter is I.

I is for Inspiration...
and I is for In Loving Memory.

Many things Inspire me... including my animals. I was often Inspired to deeper love by Shadow. This post is In Loving Memory of Shadow.

In May 1989, I picked a kitten out of the litter into which she was born. I named that kitten Smoothedge. She was a very incredible cat whom I loved deeply and dearly. We went through some very big changes in life together. In a nut shell, I moved back from the lower mainland to the Okanagan Valley, back into my home I'd had rented out, then when Smoothedge (or Smoothie) was old enough, she came to join me here. At that time I was sharing my life with Doug, D-O-G, and Sushi (man, dog, cat). In March 1990, I ended the relationship with Doug, and in order to do that completely, I had to sell my home and go into hiding. For about 4 months, I lived in my van with my dog and 2 cats. In the beginning it was scary, and soon it became an adventure and a most wonderful summer. In September I bought a new home, and we moved in October 5, 1990.

Smoothedge eventually became pregnant, and I loved to have her on my lap while I 'played with the lumps'. It was special times for us both. Then, April 28, 1991, I went out dancing, as I did most nights back then... country all the way. When I got home in the wee hours of the night/morning, Smoothie met me at the door with big lumps sticking out of her sides, yowling at me then indicating she wanted me to follow her. I got my boots off and we went to the box of clean rags I'd put in the spare bedroom for her a couple weeks earlier. I spent the rest of the night with her, experiencing birth at its finest. 4 babies born, 3 of them alive, and all 3 of those male. The two orange & white boys were easy to find homes for, but I got 'stuck' with the other one. I got Smoothedge spayed and all was well, then October of that year she was hit on the highway and had to be put down. The first in my little pet cemetary, though not the first 'fur baby' I'd had pass away... and not the last. Very heart breaking stuff. I have no idea how many times I thanked God for my Shadow!! By the way, he got his name partly from his coloring, but mostly because he followed me a lot... 'shadowed me' in spy talk, haha.

For all the years I had Smoothedge, then Shadow, I very rarely ever slept alone. It was very hard to do so once he was gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Now Mewsic lives here and occasionally sleeps with me, but never ON me like Shadow always did, she sleeps on her own pillow beside my pillow.

While these are not the best photos, artistically speaking, they hold a lot of wonderful memories for me.
