Tuesday Toastmasters Last Week

I've been meaning to tell you about the Toastmasters meeting I went to last Tuesday. It's a fairly small club, but nice, friendly people. Most of them had more than one job on the schedule. Usually, each person has only one job, but when there are not enough people to do the whole schedule, some have to do more than one job. Some clubs have their schedule a little bit different, though over all they follow the same basic layout. Most clubs have it done up in a table form, this club just has it like a point thing (not sure how to describe it properly, haha). I would like to see them change it, and my offer to do it for them, or at least find out why they don't have it in table form.

Everyone did a good job of their jobs, and I was surprised at how many people got to do table topics. Usually there's not enough time for so many, but I guess since there were only 2 speeches it left time to do more table topics, so that's cool. Table topics are short impromptu speeches of 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, speaking on a topic the Table Topics Master gives you.

One of the two speeches was by a gal who works as an insurance agent, she's the "go to gal" when you need auto insurance quotes, haha. She gave a wonderful speech on why you should not drive over 90 kilometers per hour, things like gas consumption, pollution put out, stuff like that. She also talked about ways to improve gas mileage and cut down on exhaust emissions. Very well done.

The second speech was about the recent election here in Canada. It was giving us reasons to support Canada's Prime Minister, even if we didn't vote for him, and didn't want him in office again. She had some very good points, though I don't remember now what they were, haha. I definitely did not vote for Mr. Harper.

All in all it was a very enjoyable evening and I look forward to going to another meeting there this week. In fact, they put me on the schedule for this week as General Evaluator, so I will be evaluating the entire evening, then giving feedback to the club at the end of the evening. This is a good thing as I need to do a Gen. Eval. in one of my manuals.

So, you make Toastmasters seem like a lot of fun. I have been giving speeches -- sermons even -- for years and am very comfortable with a microphone in front of a crowd. Should I now sign up and learn all the things I have been doing wrong so I freeze up and can't speak in public?
