This Week Just Past

This week, with the help of my friend Dan, Reba's run became smaller. She still has plenty of room out there, and soon will have even more once I move a set of steps around the house and put them in place for her so she can go up to the top of the yard. There's a 4 foot high retaining wall, then a hill behind the house where I've built a fenced area that was intended for a chicken run. Once I realized the chickens were disappearing, I figured it must be an eagle or hawk taking them, so if I put them up onto that hillside I'd be signing their death warrants. Eventually, I gave the chickens all away to save their lives.

Also this week, I fixed up a different cage for Charlie Chinchilla. His cage was much too small, in my opinion, so I wanted him into a larger one. At furriers, where they raise chinchillas for their fur, the chins all have fairly small cages, but in my home, I want all my critters to have the best I can supply. Charlie's cage was just fine by some standards, but not by mine, so now he has a nice big home to live in.

Today, I got a bit of yard work done, which makes me feel good. I wish I'd kicked myself out earlier in the day, but by the time I finally did, I didn't have much time to work before dark. I took the last 2 boards off the old piece of fence from Reba's run, removed the nails, and pulled the 2 posts from the ground, filled in the holes. I dug some dirt out of a trench just outside the new fence, and replaced that 'dog pooped on dirt' with some 'chicken dirt' from where the chicken run used to be right beside the dog run. I will be planting some plants there in the next few days. I have a Globe Thistle that is in a plastic milk container waiting to be planted, so that at least will go there this fall. I have some used red bricks I got through Freecycle awhile back and I plan to use them to build a walk through Reba's run and the gate to this area where I'm making the flowerbed, but more about 'plans' later as I get the work done, lol. I also sorted out some garbage that has been stacked up in front of my 'white shed' for some time now. Dan was 'helping' me one day last spring and moved all this over into there, promising it was only temporary and he'd move it again, but it's sat there ever since and I've been unable to get into that shed. I am going to get into there real soon!! All that is in there right now is wild pigeons, and therefor I know it will be deep in pigeon shit poop. I dread going in there, but know I have to. I have to find a way to 'pigeon proof' that shed which just means putting some wire or wood over a window... and finding a way to close the door. It used to fit but somehow has swollen or shifted or something because it no longer fits/closes. Once it's pigeon proof I can clean it out, then move things I have in storage in the lean-to off this shed. Once that's done, I'll rip the lean-to down. I doubt that will be done this year, lucky if I get it done next spring. Also need to re-roof Reba's house, or at least find something to cover it with for the winter. It's not leaking yet, but the wood is rotted, so this needs doing soon. Some of the tin from the roof of the lean-to could be used if I had it down, and if I filled in the nail holes with some kind of caulking. It's tin that was used before I got it, then used on the shed, so not in great shape, but will likely be good for this job anyway.

Enough of that....

Today I also got a small amount of vacuuming done in the house, something else to feel good about. If I can just keep clearing a bit more 'stuff' out or over to get more space that I can get to and clean, both inside and out, then progress is being made.

Well, off I go now to finish chores and get to bed. I am going to move my alarm clock tonight, across the room, so when it rings in the morning I can't reach the snooze button without getting out of bed and walking a few steps away from the bed. I want to be on time for things.

I send you good wishes. Thanks for visiting!!
