Toastmaster Speech – Project #5 Accepting An Award – Manual: Special Occasion Speeches
To Toastmaster for introduction and presentation of award:
This is a “Volunteer of the Year” award, given by the Okanagan Centre for Positive Living to Alice Price. Alice is a long time member at The Centre, and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees. She is the Membership Chairman. Alice also does various computer related jobs, creates the Sunday Programs, writes and submits ads to the local newspaper. Once a week Alice gets together with pianist Hannah Hamilton-Jukes to practice singing for the Sunday Services where Alice is the Congregational Song Leader. These are all volunteer jobs for which Alice is being honoured here this evening.

Title: Happy To Give Of My Time
There are a lot of great people giving of their time and their talents to the Okanagan Centre for Positive Living… especially now as we renovate and prepare to move into our wonderful new, larger, location, and as we change our name to the Okanagan Centre for Spiritual Living… To have been chosen from so many deserving people… to receive this award is really a major honor to me.
Madame Toastmaster, Fellow Toastmasters, Welcome Guests.
First, I choose to express my gratitude to the One that makes all life happen – GOD. Without God none of us would be here.
I give thanks to the Centre for Positive Living…. The Centre for Spiritual Living. Every member of The Centre has touched my life in some way & all have helped me to become a better person. Rev. Dale Jukes has taught me so much, through the classes he facilitates, through his Sunday talks, and in many other ways too numerous to mention. Hannah Hamilton-Jukes plays a large part in my learning to be a singer. Our growing friendship is teaching me more about being a friend. Recently Rev. Sheila Tegart has come on board as co-pastor at our Centre. She brings with her enthusiasm, experience and interesting talks. I know I will learn and grow even more with Rev. Sheila around.
I am grateful to you all.
I also give thanks to each of the members of the Board of Trustees. It is not only educational to work with each of you… we always have fun too. When I first came on Board as the Treasurer with no experience, I was given wonderful support and understanding while I struggled to learn and to do the job that was far larger than I’d imagined. I now am much more in my element as the Membership Chair.
The Okanagan Centre for Spiritual Living is a very important organization, not only in my life, but also in the community of Vernon.
- The Centre is a church: a place where people come together to honour God, and to become more aware of our Unity with the God Spirit.
- It’s a Spiritual Centre, bringing together people of like mind for the greater glory of God.
- The Centre holds classes & book studies, as well as presents positive, uplifting, informative movies.
- These things are all open to the public, and they all help people to learn and to grow in Spirit.
- This organization also has an Outreach Program, reaching out into the community at large. This includes working in conjunction with the Street Nurse and NOYFSS to help needy people in our community.
My association with, and my work with and for the Centre has given back to me far more than cash value. It has given me:
- a knowing of my oneness with Spirit
- self confidence
- a higher sense of self worth
- a sense of belonging
- It has also given me love and acceptance.
I am grateful to God for leading me to the Centre. I am grateful to each member, past and present, for touching my life in the many ways they have. I am grateful to be part of the growth of such a wonderful organization; being involved in its growth and with its good works in the community. I am grateful for all that the Centre and its members give to me. And I am very grateful to be chosen from so many worthy, deserving people to be honoured with this award. Thank you all one and all!! (holding up the award).
Madame Toastmaster
