Last year, I went on a wonderful vacation. It was the first time in a very long time that I felt I could 'afford' to go anywhere, the first time in a long time I could pay my own way. I was gone May 19-24, 2007. I really would love to go again this year, though at this time I can not see how... sigh. Anyway, I digress. I decided to go to the Kootenay region of British Columbia. I visited 2 towns there and totally loved them both. I visited, stayed with, a wonderful, very long time friend... and I met 2 gals who I had already 'met' through blogging; Kai, The Buzz Queen, and Claire at Claire's Garden.
Tonight, for the letter K, I am revisiting Kaslo. If I could I would hop in my truck and head out first thing in the morning... Reba and I on another road trip to the Kootenays, but at this point the only way I can go back is through these photos, and in my mind.
This is a shot of Kootenay Lake, from downtown Kaslo. I was on Water Street, just one block off the 'main drag', Front Street.
Speaking of the 'main drag', or Front Street, on the long weekend of May, this weekend coming up this year, there is a big antique car show and people come from a long ways to bring their old cars and trucks to Kaslo. Sunday is the show on the Front Street, and Monday is the parade with many of the automobiles from the show, as well as other floats.
The Langham Gallery, housed in a restored Victorian hotel, is an art gallery for Kootenay artists and sometimes used for live theatrical performances.
While we were there, Reba and I took a delightful walk along the Kaslo River. There is a great pathway there that for some ways is even wheel chair accessible, then it becomes too much of a grade for most wheelchairs to manage. There are benches here and there where people can sit and enjoy the breath taking beauty of the river. I did some climbing down a bank to get to a safe place to take some photos... this one included, haha.
The Kaslo City Hall was built in 1898 and is one of only two wooden municipal buildings that are still in use as the seats of local government.
If you are interested in reading more about Kaslo, come back for more Kaslo related posts this week, or visit here, or here, or here.

You could double this one up for "Q" --- it's a Quaint little place!
This town is beautiful. i can see why you'd want to return. I wouldn't mind visiting there myself.
Your spelling of Kootenay threw me a bit because i was born in Kootenai County, Idaho. Then I remembered, you Canadians learned to spell from England .... :)
Sounds like a lovely town. Those are some nice pictures :)
