Goings On In The 'Hood'

I didn't get to bed last night until 5:30 this morning... sigh, so I wanted to sleep in this morning. It worked... to a degree, but with a dog and cat both wanting your attention, it can be a challenge. I spent a quiet and relaxing day at home. Did a bit of housework, but not a lot... not as much as I should have done, but I needed a 'day off' after the busy week I've had. This afternoon I went back to bed for a nap after taking a pain killer, give it a chance to kick in so I can get some work done around here. Well, by the time I woke up it was minutes away from Ugly Betty, then Grey's Anatomy, now ER. Oh well, the work will still be here tomorrow, and the next day, and the.... well, you get the picture I'm sure.

Just after 8pm I was watching Ugly Betty and making some supper when there was a knock on my door. I turned on the outside light and looked out, then heard "It's Doug, your neighbor." I opened the door and talked to him for a bit. Someone had stolen his car at work today, then this evening they had heard something in their garage, between their house and mine, and scared some guy away that was in the process of robbing them. He asked if I'd seen or heard anything. Well, it's like 3 hours after dark, when still in bed I'd heard their music a bit (the bedroom end of my mobile faces the living room end of theirs), but not sure if I heard anything else. All I could tell him was that Reba (still outside in her run at that time) had been barking a lot. Not much help, but... Anyway, he said it was a guy in a hoody with a light brown dog about up to his knees. I wished him luck with the hunt and he told me to be careful, then left. I wasn't sure if I should leave Reba outside, still barking a lot, so if the guy was still around she'd warn him off, or if I should bring her in. I decided to do what I would on any other evening, and in she came. She's been quietly laying here sleeping most of the time since. Awhile ago, his wife called on the phone and told me the police found the guy and his dog in a barn a little ways down the road from here.

In case you're wondering, I live in a small 'neighborhood' about 10 minutes out of the city. We all keep to our selves, but when the chips are down we watch each others backs.

I can relate to being up all night. I had sick kids. I'm glad they caught the guy and more importantly, he didn't bother you!!!

Well, that's good that the neighbors warned you. And even better that the police caught the guy.
