Writing Prompt

It's been awhile since I posted from my writing group... to be honest, it's been awhile since I wrote anything to post here or on the writing group. Barbara has been doing such a wonderful job of sending out prompts and I've wanted to write to so many of them, and always seem to be "behind the 8 ball" so don't do the writing. Today I took a few minutes to write a wee bit of fiction, and it felt good.

Writing prompt: A tiny doll, dressed in swirling sea-foam green, was discovered beside.......

the dumpster. It appeared that, as a box full of someone’s belongings was tossed into the dumpster this little doll, not wanting to go to the garbage dump, had jumped free of her intended destiny and fallen to the ground to lie in the shade of the large garbage container. When I picked her up and dusted her off, I examined her closely and found there was nothing wrong with her. Arms and legs were all in good shape, face still fresh and beautiful, even her sea-foam green dress was in impeccable condition, once the bit of dirt was dusted off of it. One sea-foam green shoe was still on a tiny foot, though the other foot was bare. I found myself wondering, “If I dug around a bit in the dumpster, would I be able to find the missing shoe?” Yet I knew it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. I removed the tiny shoe from her foot and was about to toss it in the container when something caught my eye. The dumpster had 2 lids, one was open while the farther one was closed. Lying on top of the far lid, less than an inch from oblivion, was the second tiny shoe. It must have fallen off her foot when she gave her mighty jump to freedom. I retrieved the tiny bit of sea-foam green plastic and returned both shoes to their wee owner.

“Why would someone throw out such a gorgeous little doll?” I wondered to myself, almost expecting the doll to answer. “I know the perfect new home for you, Sweetie” I said to her, thinking of the little girl down the street from me. A cute and very sweet, brave little girl, confined to a wheelchair would love to have such a doll to keep her company. This little girl who took such good care of the few toys she had would give this doll the perfect home, filled with the love they both so richly deserve.

Namaste
