Burn Notice

This is a sponsored post... and a great story

This is an essay you must write on the Spy Entrance Exam.
"What would you do if you were stranded in an unknown city with no money or resources? How would you eat? Where would you sleep? What about the weather? Tell us how strong of a survivor you are!"

Here is my essay:

I believe that I am a survivor, and that I would manage to find a way to survive, no matter what. I know that if I was stranded in an unknown city I would find a way to survive, and even to thrive in time.

If worse came to worse, I would find a restaurant and wait for them to throw out the kitchen scraps, then I would "Dine in the Dumpster". For a resourceful person, there is always a place to sleep. On a nice summer night, if there was a sandy beach near by, I would make my bed in the sand that would mold to the shape of my body, supporting me in comfort all night long. If it was a cool or rainy night I would look for other accommodations, under shelter. There is always a car with an unlocked door, a shed with an open window, a dog house with a warm, friendly bed partner.

That is if worse came to worse, though I don't think it would. You see, I've always been an outgoing person and I meet people easily, striking up conversations in the oddest places. I can see it unfolding something like this:

Standing at a traffic light... "Hi. Beautiful day, isn't it" I say to the young woman beside me.

"Yes, finally" she answers. "After all the rain we've had lately and it's a real relief to finally see the sunshine."

"Ah, I see" respond I. "I'm fortunate I missed all that rain then."

"You missed it? Were you out of town?" she queries.

"Well, actually, I just arrived in your city. I don't actually live here." The conversation continues as we cross the street and walk down the other side together.

"Oh wonderful! You must visit the zoo while you are here. It's really quite splendid. Where are you staying?" she chats on.

"Well, actually, I spent last night sleeping in a nice secluded spot on the beach." I say, almost casually.

"You slept on the beach? What ever would you do something like that for?" You can hear the shock in her voice.

"Shortly after I arrived yesterday, I was robbed. They took my suitcase as well as my purse, all my money, and any jewelry I was wearing. See, I've no watch now. They even took my favorite jacket." I explain sadly.

"Oh but that's terrible!" she responds passionately. "Well, you can't just sleep out on the beach. You could be harmed out there alone. You must come home with me. Mommy & Papa would not hear of me doing anything but bringing you home to stay with us. You must come. We live in a nice big house over looking the ocean...." she continues on as we climb into her car for the drive out of the city.
