Photo Hunter #11 - Hair

Today’s word/theme for Photo Hunters is hair. This took a lot of though because I wanted to be "original" and "unique", not do a post like everyone else. So, here is my thought process and end decision for hair.

I have no "spare hair" in my lair, but know of many kinds of hair "out there".

Of course, there is dog hair...

and cat hair.

There is horse hair...

As well as people hair and donkey hair.
(see, someone loves me)

But what is the softest, most luxuriant hair of all?
At usually 60 hairs to each follicle, that would be the chinchilla!

This is Charlie Chinchilla. He is "standard gray" in color.

Smudge is a "mosaic white" which means he has smudges of gray on his face, gray ears, and a band of gray at the base of his tail.

Here you see Smudge visiting with Cheri who is a "beige" color.

These three and two not shown here (Daisy & Cherry Chinchilla, both standard grays) are my pets.

To make a full length chinchilla coat for a human takes about 120-140 pelts. No wonder a coat like this is so expensive. I am blessed to have 5 chinchilla coats, and all of them are still being worn by their original owners, lol.

If you have a Photo Hunters post up today, please leave a link with Mr. Linky so I can easily find it to visit you.
Everyone, with or without a Photo Hunters post, please leave a word or two... or even just a smile :o) to let me know you were here.
Wishing you all a happy, healthy weekend!

This past year I had the occasion to cruise the Inside Passage from Vancouver BC to Anchorage AK with my hubby of 32+ years. WHile In Sitka, we happened upon a furrier who specialized in chinchilla (spelling, sorry!). The owner INSISTED that I try on a short coat - dinner jacket of sorts - made from the hides of 120 of those furry critters. ABSOLUTELY the softest thing ever to touch my skin! But my hubby said that the furrier had 15,000 reasons (in dollars) for us not to purchase. So I had him make my pic in it. So close yet soooo far away!
Grins,
Marsha
P.S. tell me where they get all those hides (unless it will make me cry) and is there any other part of the chinchilla used or is the rest just wasted?

a good post...even if not for photohunters, it would stand by itself as a good post. good piece of work

They are adorable... I am so, so, so glad they are wearing their own coats and not part of a fur coat somewhere.

Fabulous photolog - chinchillas are the softest most wonderful little animals.
I'm glad all five of your coats are with the orginal owners :)
Thanks for visiting,

Say no to fur -- on humans that is. On chinchillas themselves, it looks great! :)

My black kitty is named Smudge! You must go through a lot of lint rollers. It seems I am always after the hair on my sofa and chairs and I only have 3 cats.

You have the best kind of chinchilla coats! I had an opportunity to pet a chinchilla for the first time recently and they do feel lovely.

Thanks for your comment. I hope my kids still have their first haircut hair when they are 51!

PS. I liked the poem you wrote in my comment. I hope you will enter the limerick contest at "J's thoughts and Musings!

Those are great pictures! We had a bunny once who had babies and she lined her nest with her fur. That's how the bunnies form their doolaps. Pulling out their fur stretches the skin and makes it flabby.

Thanks for your comment on my blog about donating my hair. I should add that I have had my hair short most of my life and have always had to have perms to have curly hair. The last time I had a perm was 5 or 6 years ago (if not longer) and that hair has long since been cut off. It's always been wavy but not curly. I like it! I'm glad that your daughter donates her hair too. It's a great cause.

Have a good weekend!

oooops! I spelled it wrong! It's a dewlap. LOL! I knew how to say it... just not spell it. Ah well... no biggie. Just thought I'd let you know that I realized my mistake.

At first, I saw the dogs and thought "yeah! no more cats!" and then I scrolled. Giggle. And then I scrolled more. Okay, yeah, this is cool...lots of different hair than just cat hair!

I laughed at the poem you left on my blog. Thanks for taking the time to be creative to make others laugh.
