The other day, when I was in town, I went to Wal Mart on an errand and while I was there I ended up buying some plants that were on sale. Oh how I wish I had more money to buy more of them at the great prices they are on for. Also, I wish I had more room four house plants and more places ready for outside plants. Anyway, so I bought a flat of 6 tomato plants, a Begonia, a Mini Rose and an African Violet. I planted the rose outside in a large pot yesterday, as well as one of tomatoes and started preparing a place to plant the other tomato plants. Also, in a smaller pot I planted the Begonia and it will be brought inside this fall.
Today, inside, I transplanted into larger posts the new African Violet as well as one I already had. I also transplanted another plant who's name I don't know. The bottom of each pot has a good sized hole, so I took some of Reba's many bone pieces and hit them with the hammer to break them smaller, then put them in the pot over the hole. It worked great! The dirt will stay in while allowing excess water to drip out. My African Violets sit on small rocks in bowls so they can be properly watered from the bottom as that's what they prefer, and have the humidity of the extra water evaporating.
Happy plants make a happier home :o)
