Here I am still on my weekend away, yet blogging, haha. I'm visiting Trucker who has a new neighbor/friend, Gal On The Go, who has a laptop computer. They both live in RVs in an RV Park not far from the US/Canadian boarder. We're all sitting in Trucker's 5th wheel and watching movies on TV. Just finished watching a video "Thelma & Louise" and are now watching an old John Wayne, Dean Martin & Rick Nelson movie that's on TV, called "Rio Bravo". They're both sitting on the couch so I'm at the table keeping the laptop company as I watch the TV. Of course, now I WANT A LAPTOP COMPUTER!!! I would really love the mobility of one of these, and that old "clunker" desktop I have at home is on its last legs. I'll add one of these to my ever growing Wish List.
It took me 2 hours & 5 minutes to get here yesterday, once I finally got all my errands done and got "out of town". It occured to me to wonder how long it would take to get here if I drove at the posted speed limits. Guess I'm not likely to find out any time soon.
Today the 3 of us went over and had a look at that tent trailer. We put the top up and I had a look at the rip in the canvas. That corner is rotted, but I figured I'd be able to mend it (sew in a patch), also could patch the couple other little holes in the canvas. The tires also need to be replaced, not too much money, so "do-able". The paint on the trailer is all peeling off so would need to be sanded and repainted. A lot of work for sure, but it could be fun to paint it to match my truck... and write on it "Redneck RV", haha. It also needs a tail light and we're not sure if the electrical works or not, also don't know if the propane fridge, stove & furnace work, but they would be a bonus, not a necessity. Then one corner of the top dropped, looks like a broken cable inside, the one that lifts and lowers the top. We left it there, said we'd be back later to pick it up (we were in Trucker's "old" car and would need my truck). As we ran some errands around town I had time to think things over. It's a LOT of work to make this think road worthy. We can't even be sure if it's safe or legal to pull home so I can work on it, and I don't know that I can do all the work myself as I'm not a mechanic (though I am pretty creative and independant). So, the "long and the short of it" is that I've decided not to take this tent trailer after all. I tried to phone them this evening to tell them, but they were out and when I went to call again it was too late. I don't like phoning people after 9pm unless I know they aren't "go to bed early" type people. So I'll give them a call tomorrow and tell them thank you very much for the offer, but I have to pass.
I really wanted to have a trailer to take with me and stay in when I go to the Kootenays in May, but with only 3 weeks to go and no amount of money to spend on "extras" I may be sleeping in my truck (or on the beach). I know something will work out. I good friend in the one town I'll be visiting will put me up at his place, I'm pretty sure, but I don't know yet where I'll stay in the other town/city I plan to visit for a couple days (to meet Claire on her trip over here from Scotland). I figured too that if I had a trailer I could take my "family" with me instead of trying to get someone to "critter sit".
Well, enough of that. Gal On The Go is getting ready to go "home" to her motorhome, so guess I should be nice enough to get off her laptop so she can take it home. Good night all... see you soon. I'm headed home tomorrow.

I know the movie Rio Bravo - most wouldn't consider it a "real" John Wayne western. But I sometimes enjoy The Duke's sense of humor in these silly western/comedy/dramas.
Too bad about the trailer. But it sounds like you have contingency plans.
Drive safe!
no the trailer sounds like to much work, thats a shame. how far away is your friend from nelson?
Sounds like you're having a lot of fun!
If you go "laptop" go Apple. Whatever you do, do not let any sharp salesperson load you with the new "Vista" from Microsoft.
My son bought me a birthday computer (HP loaded with Vista) to replace my old clunker. I may forgive him sometime before I turn 80.
g'night to you too..
oops, it's just 2 in the afternoon.
i also want a laptop computer..
