Photo Hunter #4 - Water

The Photo Hunters theme this week is: Water

I had a hard time deciding what to post for "water" this week. No, it's not that I didn't have anything, it's that I have a lot, haha. Should I post some of the ones I took on a family cruise to Alaska in May 2005? Or some of the many lakes in there area where I live? Or maybe some from the trip Mom & I took to the Kootenay region of BC last fall? Well, because Claire of Clairesgarden, Scotland, will be coming to visit a friend of hers who lives in the Kootenays, I decided to show her some shots from that area. I am planning to go to meet her, and meet Kai who also lives in that area of our province. Since this trip with Mom I've been "itching" to go back again... it is just so beautiful over there. In these photos you will see much water and some of the mountains. That is just the "tip of the ice burg" in regards to the incredible beauty there.

Here we are waiting for the ferry to arrive to take us across Upper Arrow Lake.

These three were taken during the crossing of Upper Arrow Lake. The second is a "zoom in" of the first and the third is a totally different place, lol. The ferry moves fairly fast but it sure is a gorgeous ride with lots of "photo ops".

These two shots were of two small lakes along the way. I can't remember what they were called, though I plan to find out when I go over in May. If Kai knows and comes to check these out, I hope she'll tell us. :o)

A very dear, long time friend, Cam, lives in an incredible little historical town on the banks of Kootenay Lake. At the end of the main street is this old sternwheeler that carried passengers and freight on Kootenay Lake from 1898 until 1957 - 59 years. It is now a tourist attraction.

Near the sternwheeler is the beach. I bet this is a lot more busy in the summer than it was in October when we were there.

While in the area, we went for a soak in Ainsworth Hotsprings which was more water, but I didn't take my camera into the pools and caves, so have no photos of that water... but you can trust me when I tell you it was AWESOME. We spent one night over there and the "Villa" we stayed in had a spa that we enjoyed soaking in too.

This is back at the ferry landing, waiting for it to arrive and take us back across Upper Arrow Lake. When I go back I will take a different route over there so will be taking a ferry across Lower Arrow Lake... and that will be another story.

That's a truly beautiful, peaceful-looking place! I had to Google-search where Koontenay Lake is because I wasn't quite sure of it. Definitely a long way from Georgia!

Thanks for visiting!

Lulu - yes, it is a very long way from Georgia, lol. Thanks for stopping by.

For all you who are wondering where Kootenay Lake is and don't want to Google it.... it's in the southern part of British Columbia, Canada! Now if you want more info on it you can go Google it... haha.

I hope everyone takes the time to see your photos large because they are breathtaking. I can't believe those mountains: so large and rocky. The reflections in one photo were perfect. The people in the photo look so tiny! Thank you.

Great pictures! Some of those look familiar!! (tee hee)

I can't place where that one of the smaller lake might be.... I haven't traveled much yet around the Arrow's. Was one taken near me? It might be Mirror Lake - I say that because of the perfect reflection of the mountains in the water.

If you're moving here you'd definitely better HURRY UP! Prices are skyrocketing - the Albertans are buying property up like crazy! I think we're the new Invermere!

Yeah - definitely a LOT of water! Beautiful scenery... In Finland we have a lot of lakes, but no mountains. Only some higher places in the north, where the lakes are a bit more rare. So here it's pretty much either or.

Thanks for visiting me :)

I always enjoy my visits to the Kootenay area. My husband and I always take a new route when we go to visit family there. One of my favorites is driving to Revelstoke and then cutting over to take the Galena Bay ferry. From there you can drive past Sandon, the historic mining ghost town. But we took another route one time, down an old road, mostly gravel, past some really amazing untouched counrtyside. Good choice of photos, one of my favorite areas of the world!!
