Update on today

I was just watching the 11 o'clock news and thought I'd give you a bit of an update.

Winter Carnival:

Mike Roberts from CHBC-TV was at the snow carving, as he is every year, so tonight there was a bit of that on the news. They showed several of the carvings including the first, second and third place winners. They said that the points for first and second were 367 and 337, so were very close. They also gave the name of the 3rd place winner which I will edit into my earlier post.

Mike also interviewed some people involved in the Cross Country Ski Competition up at the ski hill. Then they showed him down at one of the lakes this city is built between... they were doing a Polar Bear Swim there that Mike was covering too as it was part of Winter Carnival. There sure are a lot of events for Winter Carnival every year.

Weather:

They showed several cars in ditches in various degrees of damage, all in the Okanagan Valley. There was a Freezing Rain Warning out for most of the day, apparently, though I didn't know that until now, haha. Up on the ski hill it was snowing, then turning more to rain. Later, down in the valley it was raining. The TV, the internet, and the thermometer in Mom's car all said it was -2C today, but I don't see that as it was definitely melting out and -2 is below freezing. At my place at 2pm my thermometer said +2C and I believe that with the melting that was happening. It was also raining here. Tonight when I went out to the chicken house about 10:30pm it was 0C and freezing. The rain drops on my truck are all frozen and the yard is a skating rink... "fun" on a hillside.

I am very grateful that Mom and I both got home safe and sound before the freezing started.
I am grateful I don't have to go out anywhere tonight.

Snow Limo:

CHBC just showed Mike Roberts taking a ride in a Snow Limo. Wow! I guess they have these at Whistler, and now at Big White (ski hills). It's a chair, slightly reclining, on skis. You get strapped into this thing and your "driver" rides the back of it and takes you for a sight seeing ski tour. It looks somewhat scary, but awesome!! However, it will cost you $100 for a one hour tour.
