Pellet Stove Update

Cal, the repair man, just called and said he can't find a used auger motor for my make/model of pellet stove. This is not what I wanted to hear! However, it is what it is, and I have to go with a new motor. I guess if I stay in this home for a bunch more years it may pay off in the end... sigh. So the bill grows... but if I don't bite the bullet and get the pellet stove fixed, the pellets I bought will just sit there and in time deteriorate (they're already paid for), and I will have to continue to heat my home with Natural Gas which is not paid for and is expensive. To get through the rest of the winter on NG would likely cost as much if not more than it will to fix the pellet stove, and then I'd still not have the pellet stove working. Soooo I will find the money to pay for the pellet stove repairs. Good thing I have good credit, haha. I am trying to keep positive and up beat about this situation, rather than slip into hopelessness and despair. Now I'm hoping it won't take very long for him to get the new motor and install it. The sooner the better.

Gosh, that must be so frustrating. I hope it's all cleared up soon.

Stay warm!

We almost got a pellet stove but decided against it because in this area it is hard to find someone to repair them when problems occur. We have a fireplace insert with a blower and we sure like it. Keeps Cheryl busy cleaning out the ashes and carrying in the wood.

Hi Madcap... yes, it is frustrating! I miss my fire, lol. I too hope it's cleared up soon.

Hey, Tim... good to see you rambling on over here again :o) Ya, pellet stove repairmen aren't a dime a dozen around here either, but there are some so that's a bonus, haha. I really like my pellet stove and when it's working it does a great job of heating my home... better than the furnace. Friends of mine also have a fireplace insert and I think they are happy with it too. Some things about the pellet stove that make them "better" are: I can fill the hopper with pellets and it runs for (depending on how cold it is) up to 2 days before I have to refill it. There is no "dirty" to pellets (no bark, dirt, dust, etc. to fall off them when bringing them in). There are ashes to clean out, but not very many of them. It takes me all winter to get a bucket full... only have to clean the stove about once a week unless it's real cold and I'm burning a lot of pellets, then I have to clean it twice, but it's easy to do and not many ashes. Mind you, there are a couple places around here where you can pick up free wood scraps, 2x4s and such... but I can't use them in my pellet stove, haha. I am thinking about using some of them to build a raised bed garden though. Will take lots of glue, but oh well.
