Ta Da!!!

Once it's off the loom it still needs to be "finished".

To make sure the threads don't unravel, I zig zag right along the edge, then remove the header cord.

Here the warp is partly trimmed off. It all has to be trimmed from both ends.

Fold the edge over half an inch and iron in place.

Fold the folded edge up to the ladder stitching, pin and iron.

Now hand stitch the hem into place with sewing thread.

Then it's hand washed (soak in hot, soapy water the swished around, rinsed a couple times), then into the washer for the spin cycle to extract as much water as possible. Now it's wrapped into a towel and left to sit for a short time.

With the table runner still damp it is ironed until dry or near dry.

This is also when you trim off any bits where one bobbin ran out and another one was started.

Here is the finished product! As you can see, it's made in Mom's colors, not mine. Maybe I will do a post about my table and chairs... but not tonight. :o)

Unfortunately, I still see a bit of the black marks from the loom that I told you about earlier. This does NOT make me happy. I am going to wash and iron it again in the hopes of totally removing them. They are not as noticeable as they were, but are still there.

The time it took for this "finishing" was about 1:52. Add that to the previous 21:18 and it took me 23 hours to make this table runner. This does not include planning, or going to buy the Orlec (synthetic fibre I used to weave with... I love the feel and look of Orlec). It also does not include getting out the iron and ironing board and other such things as that... just the actual measuring of the warp, weaving, finishing. I wish you could actually see and feel the finished product, the way it shines and drapes. It's really pretty nice :o)

I washed the table runner again and all the black marks came out. What a relief. I am so grateful it all came clean.
