Well, things are heating up!! According to the Environment Canada website: yesterday at 10:00 am it was -2oC (-4F) and today at the same time it was -10C (14F)... so that is a major improvement... 10 degrees C (18 degrees F) warmer. And I'm Bunches Happier!! We had some more snow yesterday but not much and today it is cloud and sun mixed. It is currently -8C (16.7F)
The 4WD on my truck quit working earlier this fall, so I took it to my mechanic to have it fixed. It is an electric shift rather than the old gear shift on the floor to change the transfer case from 2WD to 4WD high range or low range, and there are 3 different things (components) that can go wrong. It took a bit to figure out which one of these it was, and of course turned out to be the most expensive of the bunch... the motor underneath the truck. My mechanic, Larry, and his boss, Larry, tried to find me a good used one (both really good guys) as they know my financial circumstances... but to no avail. They couldn't even find a bad used one, lol. So they had to go new... and they couldn't even get a new one in town. Well, maybe if they'd tried the Ford dealership they might have been able to get one, but that would have cost 4 times what it would anywhere else. So, it was ordered from "back east". It took awhile to come, but finally did.
While waiting for the motor other much needed work got done. New muffler and tail pipe (old had fallen off about a week before, amazingly enough was quiet until then), replaced a broken stud on right passenger side front wheel with a shiny new one, new brake pads on both front wheels, and put on my winter wheels (I have all 4 winters on steel rims and 4 summers on mags).
When the motor finally got here Larry and Larry were really busy so I had to wait for them to "fit it in". Yesterday I took the truck in at 8:30am and left it with them for the day. My minister picked me up and we went to "the Centre" and finished off some very important work we've (Rev. Dale, Alan our President, and myself, treasurer) been doing there. Then Al was good enough to drive me home on his way to a job. In the evening Andree came by and gave me a ride to the garage to pick up my truck (we were on our way to the last of 12 classes in the 4Ts Prosperity Program). Then I went to class.
It was so wonderful driving Vaquero home with his 4WD working. On these roads I drove all the way from town in 4WD high range, then right up my snowy driveway with no problem. It was awesome!
I LOVE MY TRUCK (Vaqero... cowboy in spanish) and am very grateful to have it all fixed up. Granted, it's a big bill I now must find some way to pay... sigh... but I have to say that Larry and Larry were very good to me, as always, so the bill is WAY smaller than it would have been had I taken Vaquero to any other garage. Likely about half.
