The Beat Goes On...

The Beat Goes On is more than just a Sunny and Cher song... LOL.

Actually, "beat" is a weaving term. With every "throw" (every time the shuttle holding the weft threads goes through the warp threads) you "beat" (bring the reed down to move the weft thread into place. You have to be careful with your beat or you can have the threads too close together if you beat too hard, or too far apart if you don't beat hard enough, or you can have a bit of both if your beating in uneven.
A closer shot of the previous one. I wove the first 3 inches in a straight twill, then did the ladder stitching, then wove another inch, in the pattern I'll be working with for the rest of the table runner, using the same thread for the weft as I did for the warp. Then I did a line of trellis stitching, followed by weaving the pattern using the rose color warp thread.
As you can see I am making some progress, though there is still soooo much more to do on it. I ran out of my first bobbin of weft thread so took this picture and measured the weaving. Of this section I now have woven 7 10/16"... just under 8" of about 54" before I do the other end the same as I did this end. So guess I'd better get off this computer and get back to weaving. I can only sit still and do any one thing for a short time then must get up and move around a bit, so am weaving, blogging and washing dishes all at once. :o)

I love your multi-tasking skills and products for that matter. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks Katie. Sometimes I think I'd accomplish more if I multi tasked less, though. But with so many things to do I can't just focus on one... LOL.

I also can't wait to see the finished product. I have another table runner to do and want to do a scarf too, all before Christmas. YIKES! Only 48 days to go.
