Laugh 15

This is the final excerpt from from Chapter 3 of "Life's Greatest Lessons" by Hal Urban. If you are just here for the first time and would like to start reading from the beginning, you will find it all at my label Good For A Laugh.

Laughter As A Priority

I don't want to imply that you have to go through life acting like Daffy Duck or Bozo the Clown in order to be happy. You don't have to wear red high-top basketball shoes or do the Superman call backward, either. We have different personalities and different styles, so we can't all do those kinds of things. but whatever our makeup, we still need an emotional diet which includes play and laughter.

I learned a number of years ago that I was taking life too seriously. In fact, if being serious had been an Olympic Sport, my picture would have been on a box of Wheaties. A good friend of mine told me one day that I seemed to be carrying the weight of the world around on my shoulders. He asked me how much fun I was having and how much I laughed. It was at about this time that I saw those two movies mentioned earlier. Zorba taught me about the need to have a little madness now & then, and Murray showed me the importance of seeing the comedy that's all around us. Now this doesn't mean that I turned into some kind of wild and crazy guy," but laughter did become a high priority in my life. It now ranks right up there with food, sleep and air. I can't imagine a day without it.

A good place to start is right at home. It's important to be able to laugh at ourselves. Just think for a moment of some of the incredibly stupid, klutzy, harebrained things you've done in your life. guess what. You're going to do a lot more of them. Don't miss out on the comic character you have within. People who know how to laugh at themselves will never cease to be entertained.

The real key is in looking. There's an old axiom that says we usually find what we're looking for. and there's plenty of comedy and laughter to be found out there. I can't imagine a healthier pursuit.

Laugh and be well. - Matthew Green

And that, my joyous friends, is the end of Chapter 3.

Now to figure out what to post for the remaining 14 days.

How true is this to be able to laugh at ourselves. When we can do that, others can laugh with us. It makes you stronger I think. Great yet again :)
